Details: Belconnen High School (BHS) is a secondary school (Years 7-10) with approximately 600 enrolments; situated in the suburb of Hawker. The school, in partnership with the school community, focuses on ensuring all students learn in an environment that promotes excellence, celebrates success, nurtures wellbeing and provides for all students ongoing academic needs. We successfully provide students with the skills and values that will prepare them for the challenges and responsibilities of adult citizenship. Working with cultural integrity and providing a school that is culturally safe for our first nations’ students and community members is central to how we see ourselves.
We are seeking a dynamic and motivated Head of Arts and Technology. The successful applicant will be an instructional leader with deep specialist experience in the implementation, delivery and assessment of the Australian Curriculum Arts (7-10) and Technology (7-10). They will build strong, respectful and productive relationships with their team and all members of the school community. They will provide strategic leadership and coaching and mentoring support to implement school programs and initiatives.
The successful applicant will need to have demonstrated capability in:
- Leading the implementation, delivery and quality assurance of Australian Curriculum Arts (7-10) and Technology (7-10) and tracking student achievement against faculty goals.
- Ensuring that Arts/Technology faculty assessment enables all students to demonstrate their learning in relevant and engaging ways.
- Enacting responsive instructional leadership and ensuring staff are supported to enact high quality and effective classroom experiences for students according to their career developmental stage.
- Supporting teaching staff to provide safe and supportive environments where students can thrive both academically and socially.
- Working collectively to guarantee the achievement of whole school improvement priorities.
- Leading a whole school responsibility commensurate with the applicant's skills and career development priorities.
Belconnen High School will have a schoolwide literacy focus over the life of the current school improvement plan with a specific focus on writing. Improvement in writing outcomes for students will be enacted through a whole school PLC model where all staff take on collective responsibility for all students' writing achievements. The successful applicant will be both a learner and a leader as they adopt PLC processes to assure student achievement in Arts and Technology against key learning priorities.

Eligibility/Other Requirements: Applicants must hold a four-year teaching qualification or equivalent and be registered to teach with the ACT Teacher Quality Institute or equivalent registration body in another Australian jurisdiction.
Notes: This is a temporary position available for a period of 12 months from 26 January 2026 up until 26 January 2027 with the possibility of permanency. A merit-based selection methodology will be applied consistent with Joint Selection Committee guidelines. Depending on the size of the field and the quality of applications, various shortlisting techniques may be used including interviews and referee reports or referee phone interviews. Selection may be based on application and referee reports only.
