Conservation Employee - Fire Specialist
The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) is seeking a Conservation Employee - Fire Specialist to join their team in the Wellington District.
The successful applicant will undertake pre-burn inspections, provide specialist advice on terrain suitability, conduct audits and maintain fire equipment, and supervise and lead Conservation Employees and contractors in various activities related to fire management, conservation, parks, and visitor services.
The key responsibilities of this role include:
- Undertaking pre-burn inspections and updating maps as required.
- Providing specialist advice on terrain suitability and identifying required works for heavy vehicle access.
- Conducting audits and maintaining fire equipment and the fire store.
- Supervising and leading Conservation Employees and contractors in various activities related to fire management and other departmental works programs.
To be successful in this role, applicants will need to demonstrate:
- Ability to supervise and coach others in a range of work programs.
- Ability to plan and implement works programs efficiently and promote best practice quality control measures.
- Proven ability to undertake roles in prescribed burning and incident and fire management activities.
- Good oral and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team and under limited supervision.
