The Company
This is a unique opportunity to join one of Australia/'s leading universities, known for its commitment to student success, academic excellence, and social impact. With a strong focus on community engagement and innovation, the institution plays a critical role in shaping the future of higher education in Australia. You/'ll be part of a supportive and forward-thinking environment that values collaboration, integrity, and continuous improvement.
Purpose of the Role
Reporting to the Management Accountant, Business Partnering & Reporting, you will provide financial support and insights to a portfolio of stakeholders across schools and central administration areas. As the key finance contact for your assigned areas, you/'ll deliver monthly reports, assist with budgeting and forecasting, and drive continuous improvement in reporting processes.
The role involves a balance of business-as-usual (BAU) finance operations and project-based work, particularly around dashboard development and data visualisation using tools such as Power BI and Excel. You/'ll be expected to communicate financial insights clearly to non-finance stakeholders, requiring excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Responsibilities
- Act as the primary finance contact for allocated schools and central administrative departments, delivering timely and accurate monthly financial reporting, including P&L, salary reconciliations, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Provide strategic financial support to Finance Business Partners, including forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis.
- Deliver clear, accessible financial insights to stakeholders from non-financial backgrounds, translating data into meaningful, actionable information.
- Prepare and assist with acquittals for external grants and research funding (e.g. HERDC, ARC, MHMRC), ensuring compliance and timely submissions.
- Conduct general ledger reconciliations, manage corporate card transactions, and support financial compliance across the university.
- Participate in the design, testing, and maintenance of financial systems, dashboards, and reports, including the development of an extensive dashboard library.
- Utilise Power BI and Excel (including advanced formulas, no macros) to bridge data across systems and build dynamic reports and visualisations.
- Collaborate on projects focused on process improvement and reporting automation, actively contributing to a culture of continuous improvement.
- Assist in maintaining and improving the core finance systems, with occasional involvement in SAP (not essential).
- Support system testing and contribute to the design of new business processes to enhance reporting accuracy and efficiency.
- Work closely with the broader Business Partnering and Reporting team to ensure consistent, strategic financial advice and services are provided.
Key Requirements
- A degree in accounting, finance, or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience. Candidates currently studying toward professional qualifications (e.g., CPA, CA) are encouraged to apply.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare high-quality financial reports and explain complex financial matters to non-finance stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience in financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and preparing monthly reports.
- Strong Excel skills, including experience with advanced formulas (no macros) to clean and manipulate data from multiple sources.
- Experience or strong interest in Power BI for dashboard development and data visualisation (highly regarded).
- High attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities within deadlines.
- Comfortable working in a collaborative, high-performing team focused on both BAU and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Experience with SAP is beneficial but not required.
- Confident using PowerPoint to present financial data and insights.
