Overview

The Department of Local Government, Industry Regulation and Safety (LGIRS) supports communities through Consumer Protection, ensuring fair trade and safeguarding consumer rights. We are looking for two Senior Regional Officers – one for Karratha and one for Broome – to lead and deliver Consumer Protection services within their regions.

Responsibilities

- Deliver Consumer Protection services to consumers and traders within the region.

- Engage with local communities to understand emerging issues and support a fair trading environment.

- Ensure efficient delivery of services by the Regional Office.

- Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships and networks.

- Develop, implement and maintain educational, community engagement and communication strategies.

- Resolve consumer disputes and coordinate responses to emerging trends.

- Influence the community and business organisations proactively and independently.

Qualifications and Experience

- Demonstrated ability to influence community and business organisations and engage effectively with the media.

- Strong consultation and negotiation skills, with experience resolving disputes, including those involving vulnerable and/or Indigenous individuals.

- Leadership experience – build and maintain effective working relationships and collaborate across teams.

- A solid understanding of consumer protection law and practice in Western Australia.

- Strong communication, problem‑solving and organisational skills.

Eligibility

Applicants must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or hold a visa that permits indefinite work in Australia at the time of application. Applicants with a valid work visa for a specified period may also be considered for similar fixed‑term vacancies.
