Job Description

COBRA, an 80-year-old group, promotes an efficient business model through decentralization, geographical diversification, and technical specialization with over 20,000 professionals across 43 countries. It offers a wide range of project services across various sectors, tailored to client needs, both public and private.

COBRA's main sectors include Networks, Specialized Installations, Integrated Projects, and Concession Assets. A partnership between ACCIONA, COBRA, and Endeavour Energy, ACEREZ, has been appointed as the preferred network operator by EnergyCo for the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) transmission line project. The ACCIONA COBRA Joint Venture (ACJV) handles design and construction.

The project aims to deliver high-capacity transmission lines, energy hubs, and infrastructure to transfer solar and wind energy to consumers, expected to be operational by 2028 with an initial capacity of 4.5 GW.

Location

The successful candidate will be based in Sydney, working full-time in our Sydney offices, Monday to Friday.

About the Role

We are seeking dedicated Electrical Design Engineers to join our growing Substation team for the Central-West Orana project. This role involves collaborating with design, procurement, construction, and quality teams to ensure timely, within-scope, and high-quality project delivery.

- Design primary electrical substation engineering for projects up to 500kV.
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards and client requirements.
- Develop design solutions considering various constraints and optimize accordingly.
- Coordinate clash detection and resolution to ensure clash-free designs.
- Prepare design calculations, including earthing, busbar sizing, lightning protection, and more.
- Define subsystems and bills of material for accurate costing.
- Ensure safety and adherence to electrical clearance standards, with provisions for maintenance.
- Design outdoor physical layouts, including general arrangements, transformer yards, and control buildings.
- Write specifications and evaluate vendors for high-voltage equipment.
- Interface with civil, protection, cable, and OHL disciplines.
- Review power system models, short circuit studies, and load flow reports.
- Review manufacturer documents and obtain client approvals during detailed engineering.

Required Skills and Competencies

- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field.
- At least 3 years of experience in substation foundations and design.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Knowledge of geotechnical interpretation.
- Familiarity with local standards and IEC/IEEE/ANSI standards.
- Understanding of layout and primary equipment for substations up to 500kV.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, ETAP, and similar software tools.
