The Kick-off Story
The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has awarded Football Australia hosting rights for the 2026 edition of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup. This marks Australia’s second time hosting the event, after previously staging it in 2006, and follows the success of co-hosting the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
You will be part of a Local Organising Committee (LOC), which has been established for the sole purpose of delivering the 2026 edition of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup in Australia.
This prestigious event will bring together 12 nations in a tournament structured into three groups of four. We are eager to create another tournament that celebrates women’s football and multicultural Australia and also delivers legacy outcomes for football and Australian society more broadly.

Your Next Big Match
Please note that this role is fixed term until March 2026.
- Draft media releases, media alerts, media distributions, and other related communications.
- Proactively develop content / feature opportunities for a variety of mediums (website, print, newsletter, social media, corporate communications).
- Assist in the facilitation of Media & Communications requests from a range of stakeholders internally and externally.
- Work with Marketing Team to amplify campaign ideas to generate coverage, visibility and excitement, across earned and owned channels.
- Pitching in and coordinating PR opportunities to promote the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026 including but not limited to features, interviews, influencer / ambassador opportunities.
- Assist with updating the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026 website as required.
- Assist in the production of news-related digital content.
- Assist in the coordination of AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026 media events, media opportunities, photo shoots and other similar activities, including generating coverage for Milestone events.
- Maintenance of AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026 media distribution lists and contacts.
- Compilation of media monitoring reports.
- Provide media support at AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026 events.
- Assist with other duties within the Ticketing and Fan Engagement department as required.

What gets you in the Game?
- Understanding of and experience in local and global football.
- High-level organisational ability and attention to detail.
- A passionate and highly driven team player with an ability to work collaboratively and autonomously.
- Ability to collaborate across multi-disciplinary streams of media, PR, marketing, digital.
- Proven experience in generating media coverage.
- Working knowledge of media industry practices.
- Ability to work with urgency in a fast-paced, ever changing sporting environment, whilst maintaining the highest quality of output.
- Excellent communications (verbal & written) and relationship management skills.
- Good research skills and techniques.
- Flexibility and flair to respond to a diversity of one-off projects.
- Must demonstrate the ability to work with agility, foster trust, embrace inclusivity, collaborate as one united team, and consistently strive for excellence.

- Full working rights in Australia *(please note that due to the fixed-term nature of the tournament, we are unable to offer sponsorship for this position)
- Working with children check (paid/employee) or state-based equivalent
- International Criminal History Record for each country (other than Australia) in which you have resided for 12 months or more in the last 10 years (if applicable)
- Out of hours and weekend work as required
- Our roles are based at Moore Park in Sydney
