Description

The Senior Communications Officer role is part of the Media and Communications team within the Executive division. In partnership with the Director of Media and Communications, this position offers high‑level strategic support, guidance, and oversight across media relations, issues management, internal and external communications, digital engagement, and public relations activities.

- Collaborate with media outlets to craft and distribute press releases and statements, including participation in an after‑hours media response roster

- Actively identify and promote positive stories through traditional media, social platforms, newsletters, and other communication channels

- Lead and oversee social media engagement, ensuring consistent delivery of compelling and relevant content

- Create and maintain website and intranet content, championing their use as central tools for communication across the organisation

- Contribute to the development and execution of internal and external communication strategies, including support for change management initiatives

- Capture and manage photography and video content, maintain a visual asset library, and coordinate commercial or professional filming projects

- Build and sustain strong relationships with key stakeholders such as staff, volunteers, and community members

- Organise and support corporate events including service launches, official openings, and visits from dignitaries or VIPs

Profile

- 10+ years experience in a similar role

- Consistently models behaviours aligned with key values of collaboration, openness, respect, and empowerment, fostering these principles in interactions with colleagues, direct reports, clients, and their support networks

- Holds tertiary qualifications and/or substantial experience in public relations, communications, journalism, or a closely related field

- Brings proven expertise in media relations, crisis and issues management, and the creation of media releases and statements, along with event planning, coordination, and execution

- Demonstrates experience in crafting and delivering communication strategies for both internal and external audiences

- Possesses strong knowledge of social media platforms and their responsible use within regulated environments, with the ability to produce engaging content and lead digital communication initiatives across websites and intranets

- Exhibits advanced interpersonal skills, working autonomously while effectively engaging with staff, volunteers, community members, and stakeholders across government and corporate sectors

- Communicates with clarity and impact across written, verbal, and digital formats, tailoring messaging for diverse audiences and materials

- Manages time and tasks efficiently in fast‑paced settings, balancing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines with confidence

Job Offer
