As Senior Design Manager – Renewables at Arup, you’ll lead the design and delivery of complex renewable energy projects, ensuring innovative, high-quality solutions across technologies like solar, PV, wind and/or battery storage. You’ll also collaborate with multidisciplinary teams – including engineers, architects and sustainability consultants – to manage project timelines, budgets and client relationships. Your role will also involve mentoring junior colleagues, integrating cutting‑edge design practices, and contributing to Arup’s mission of shaping a more sustainable built environment.

The Opportunity

- Lead multidisciplinary teams to deliver renewable energy projects across technologies such as solar, wind and/or battery storage ensuring technical excellence and innovation.

- Manage project design phases from concept through to detailed design and construction, coordinating with clients, stakeholders, and internal teams to meet project goals and timelines.

- Ensure compliance with industry standards and sustainability goals, integrating environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles into design strategies.

- Mentor and support junior engineers and designers, fostering a collaborative and inclusive team environment while promoting professional development.

- Contribute to business development efforts, including proposal writing, client engagement, and identifying new opportunities in the renewables sector.

Is this role right for you?

- Extensive experience in renewable energy design and delivery, with a strong track record of managing multidisciplinary teams across solar, wind and/or battery storage ensuring technical excellence and innovation.

- Tertiary qualifications in engineering, architecture or a related field, ideally with chartered status or equivalent professional accreditation.

- Proven leadership and project management skills, including the ability to oversee complex design processes, manage budgets and schedules, and engage effectively with clients and stakeholders.

- Deep understanding of sustainability principles, regulatory frameworks, and technical standards relevant to renewable energy infrastructure.

- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities, with a commitment to mentoring junior staff and fostering a high‑performance, inclusive team culture.
