We are seeking a dedicated professional to lead radiation and laser safety across the district. In this pivotal role, you’ll provide expert medical physics services while ensuring compliance with the NSW Radiation Control Act and Regulation. You’ll champion safe practices, advise on hazard mitigation, and maintain systems that keep staff, patients, and visitors protected. From managing the Radiation Safety Committee to leading incident response and policy development, you’ll be at the forefront of safety and innovation.

What you will bring to the role
- Australasian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine (ACPSEM) Certification in one of the key radiation physics disciplines: Diagnostic Imaging Medical Physics (DIMP), Radiation Oncology Medical Physics (ROMP) OR for suitable experienced physicists or overseas candidates, the ability to achieve ACPSEM certification in one of these disciplines within 12 months.
- Hold or eligible to apply for a current NSW EPA licence to use ionising radiation apparatus and radioactive substances (medical physics specialist) and hold or eligible to apply for a radiation licence with the appropriate conditions as an RSO (IA18/S18) (Radiation Safety Officer) under the direction of the NSW Radiation Control Act. NOTE: If this role is held on a part time basis and only the medical physics specialist duties are applicable, then only the NSW EPA licence is required.
- Demonstrated recent experience working as a Medical Physics Specialist in a health or related setting.
- Demonstrated experience in applying radiation control legislation and relevant codes of safe practice within a health care environment.
- Demonstrated superior organisation skills with the ability to work autonomously and to set and manage work priorities within a high volume, fast paced and complex environment.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to research programs and work collaboratively with universities for education and research.
- Demonstrated high level oral and written communication skills to communicate effectively with colleagues, patients, internal and external stakeholders, and members of the public on radiation issues, with the ability to analyse complex information, synthesise findings and compile briefs, reports and plans on radiation safety matters.
- Current driver’s license (P2 acceptable) and willing to use this for work purposes, including travelling to all relevant facilities throughout NBMLHD.
Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified and must not exceed the duration or conditions associated with the current visa.
