Wollongong City Libraries is a vibrant service of Wollongong City Council. With seven locations, our libraries are welcoming spaces that foster lifelong learning, inclusion, and innovation.

As a Senior Library Services Officer, you'll deliver exceptional customer experiences, lead programs, and support team operations. These roles are key to ensuring inclusive, high-quality services for our diverse community, while stepping into leadership responsibilities when needed. You'll actively promote a culture of inclusion and belonging, ensuring that library policies and procedures are implemented effectively across all service areas.

Opportunities Available:

- Thirroul Library - Permanent Full Time 35 hours per week including some Saturdays

- Wollongong Library - Permanent Part Time (24 hours/week across 4 days, including Saturdays)

You may be required to work weekends and across any of our seven libraries through-out the Wollongong Local Government Area, dependent on operational requirements and as per the rostered schedule. This is a hands‑on role; applicants must be physically capable of undertaking manual tasks relating to the role.

Under Part 2, Section 6 of the Child Protection (Working With Children) Act 2012, this position has been designated as requiring a paid NSW Working With Children Check.

Salary from $47.05 up to $52.72 per hour plus superannuation (Salary package will be assessed based on skills, experience and qualifications)

What you will be doing

- Deliver exceptional customer service to library visitors, community partners, and colleagues across Council.

- Plan and deliver inclusive, high-quality programs and events that engage and inspire our community.

- Provide guidance and support to staff, volunteers, and students.

- Assist customers with technology and digital services.

- Contribute to continuous improvement and service development.

- Support the Service Team Leader with day-to-day library operations, including staff supervision, training, and development

- Promote inclusion, creativity, and lifelong learning across our library network.

- Contribute to the design and improvement of library spaces, processes, programs, and events in line with the Wollongong City Libraries Strategy 2024-2028.

About you

You're passionate about libraries, community, and delivering exceptional service with . With your foundation of library experience, you bring a unique blend of technical know‑how, creativity, and leadership to help us create welcoming, inclusive spaces for everyone.

You're someone who can support the Team Leader, step up when needed, and help guide and mentor others. You thrive in dynamic environments‑confidently solving problems, supporting others, and bringing programs and events to life. Your collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders make you a valued member of the team.

You hold a relevant diploma or higher qualification, a valid Working with Children Check, and the physical capability to perform the role. You're proactive, adaptable, and skilled at resolving conflict and supporting diverse customers.

Comfortable with technology and eager to learn emerging systems, you also bring excellent organisational skills and a commitment to meeting deadlines. Above all, you're dedicated to child safety, inclusion, and living Council's values: Respect, Integrity, OneTeam, Sustainability, and Courage.
