As the Senior Manager – Ground Safety (Airports & Freight), you’ll lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety standards and assurance frameworks across Qantas Airlines Airports & Freight. You’ll focus on operational assurance, safety governance, and strategic improvement initiatives.
Your leadership will be key to embedding a proactive safety culture, driving standardisation, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and Group Safety strategies. You’ll work closely with business units and Group Safety functions to deliver specialised safety programs, support operational safety and compliance, and provide assurance and governance. You’ll use data-driven insights to identify emerging risks, influence senior stakeholders, and drive continuous improvement in safety performance.
What you’ll bring to the role:
- 5+ years’ experience in operational safety, standards, or assurance leadership roles, ideally within aviation, freight, or other complex environments
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant operational field e.g. Aviation, WHS, Environmental Safety, or Safety Management
- Proven experience in strategic planning, program delivery, and managing diverse business objectives
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to influence positive outcomes at all levels
- Deep knowledge of safety legislation, regulatory requirements, and best practice frameworks
- Strong understanding of critical risks and critical controls
- Skilled in risk management, change management, and decision-making
- Experience in contractor and supplier management and oversight
- Commitment to continuous improvement and operational excellence
