Overview
Location: South Brisbane + Work from Home flexibility. Join a leading Queensland government agency as a Privacy Specialist, where you’ll play a pivotal role in safeguarding sensitive information and ensuring compliance with privacy legislation. You will lead Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) for digital initiatives, interpret relevant laws, and support adherence to privacy, records management, and data governance standards.
Responsibilities
- Lead collaboration efforts to align privacy and security compliance programs, including policy development, investigation oversight, and monitoring compliance standards.
- Manage privacy practices and data ethics, identifying risks and advising on mitigation strategies to protect patient and personal information.
- Oversee processes to detect, investigate, and report unauthorized access or disclosure of health information, working closely with Health Information Access teams to deliver awareness and education initiatives.
- Act as a liaison with regulatory bodies such as the Office of the Information Commissioner and Crime and Corruption Commission, supporting privacy-related investigations and resolutions.
- Provide expert advice to the Senior Director, Digital Health Service, on complex privacy and data issues, facilitating clear communication and stakeholder management.
- Mentor and support the Health Information team, especially within the privacy domain.
- Ensure business solutions comply with strategic goals, standards, and protocols.
- Promote a positive, inclusive workplace culture that values high performance, leadership development, and staff wellbeing.
Qualifications
- Experience in Privacy, Governance, or a related field.
- Relevant qualifications in privacy management and compliance methodologies.
- Experience within government sectors is highly desirable.
- Strong communicator and collaborator with a proactive approach to privacy risk.
