Council of the City of Sydney, Australia ATHENA MORTGAGE Full time

Meet Athena, the Home Loan Wrecker

Athena Home Loans burst into the industry in 2019 to shake things up and change home loans for good.

We're reimagining home loans and showing Australia there's a lender on their side. Home loans are all we do. We continue to rewrite the rules of home lending, creating tools, products and policy that put the power back in our customers' hands. Athena has been recognised amongst multiple consumer lending and industry awards including Canstar Outstanding Value and Innovation Excellence awards, RateCity and Mozo awards, and Fintech Lender of the year and made AFR Boss best places to work list.

If you’re looking to shake things up and make a difference in a diverse, unified team with no elbows, we’d love to hear from you.

At Athena, we’re on a mission to help Aussies pay off their home loans faster. The Quality Assurance Specialist sits within our Credit and Risk team and plays a key role in ensuring our credit decisions are accurate, compliant and aligned with Athena’s lending standards and risk appetite.

The Role

- Review and assess credit applications (pre- and post-funding) to ensure they meet Athena’s lending guidelines and compliance requirements.

- Identify policy breaches, process gaps, or potential risks through structured quality reviews.

- Facilitate coaching with credit assessors for process or compliance improvements and work with the operational teams to identify upskilling opportunities.

- Work with the Operational and Compliance teams to monitor and report suspicious transactions to AUSTRAC.

- Maintain QA records, monitor trends, and contribute to regular reporting for senior management.

- Collaborate closely with the Credit, Operational Risk and our Compliance teams to support risk mitigation and process improvement initiatives.

- Contribute to the continuous improvement of Athena’s credit policies, procedures, and training frameworks.

- Foster a culture of open risk discussion, continuous learning, and accountability.

Who we're looking for?

- You have 2+ years’ experience in Quality Assurance or Credit Operations.

- You bring strong knowledge of residential mortgage lending and credit assessment principles.

- You’re skilled at identifying issues and providing constructive feedback to help others grow.

- You thrive in a dynamic, fun, and purpose-driven environment.

- You demonstrate a high-level attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

- You get energy from helping Customers and saving them a bucketload.

- You have excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.

Benefits & Perks

- Inclusive, flexible and casual working environment.

- Hybrid working with HQ Anchor Days in award winning office space.

- Wellbeing program to support your physical, mental, social and financial health.

- Perks program with access to discounts to everyday expenses.

- Fantastic team culture with monthly events.

You’ll be joining an experienced team, passionate about being best in class in everything we do. We have a relaxed and fun atmosphere where you can bring your unique self and skills to help us all grow as a team. Be great, be you, play nice.

At Athena we are committed to a workplace that embraces diversity, equality, and inclusion. Athenians are free to let their own brand of freak fly.
