Primary Learning Support (Intervention) Teacher
Belmont Christian College invites applications from suitably qualifiedPrimary Learning Support (Intervention) Teacher in Student Learning Support team for a full-timeposition. While a full time position is preferred, we are open to have a discussion for part-time as well to explore the possibility of a job share, as feasible.
The Primary Learning Support (Intervention) Teacher is a full-time position which plays a crucial role in collaborating with the Primary teachers, students, parents and the Learning Support team to create an inclusive environment that enhances individualised student learning, engagement, and wellbeing as per the students’ needs.

● Have a genuine love of children and be committed to their growth in learning
Overview of the role:
● Act as the Primary teacher liaison, under the guidance of Head of Student Learning and Support to provide individualised interventions for students. ● Guide teachers and provide support in developing curriculum for the learning interventions to support students with marginal needs.
● Provide advice to Primary school teachers in managing student behavior of students with disability or with marginal needs.
● Guide Primary teachers and assist in record-keeping and documentation related to student learning progress and outcomes.
● Ensure compliance with school policies and child safety regulations. This is an exciting and challenging position for someone who is passionate about Christian education, adopts a relational approach to their work demonstrating experience and a willingness to partner with the Learning Support team, and the College Staff.

Detailed Job Description
The Intervention Teacher plays a critical role in supporting the Learning Support team and liaising with the Primary school teachers to best suit individualised student learning needs, engagement, and wellbeing. This role collaborates with Primary school teachers, students and parents to ensure an inclusive learning environment that meets the diverse needs of Primary school students.
The Intervention teacher is required to:
• Read, understand, and adhere to all the College’s policies and procedures.
• Take proactive responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students in the learning support team.
• Undertake training and professional development as required to keep up to date with current developments.
• To support staff in all aspects of the school’s processes and procedures as required.
• Be fully aware of and implement any emergency plans according to College Procedures (e.g. emergency closures, fire alarms etc.).
• To ensure that work is completed in a timely manner and according to agreed procedures.
Key Accountabilities
Christian Leadership Demonstrate a Christ-like example in the College ensuring that:
- All activities are undertaken with a strong Christian commitment and focus. Christian servant leadership is exercised with staff, students, parents, and the wider community.
- Perform day-to-day duties prayerfully and consistent with a Biblical lifestyle with the aim of bringing glory to God.
Student Learning Support with individualised interventions:
- Act as the Primary teacher liaison, under the guidance of Head of Student Learning and Support to provide individualised interventions for students.
- Assess, observe and support students who have borderline requirements and need adequate yet marginal learning support.
- Support in teacher training, including induction and observations within learning support.
- Use data-driven strategies to provide targeted student interventions. Offer small-group or one-on-one student support in hybrid and bite sized learning programs.
- Conduct observations and assessments to build basic interventions.
- Supervise and monitor student learning support efforts and progress in discussion with Primary teachers.
- Plan and strategize independent Learning Support initiatives for Primary students who require marginal assistance.
Classroom and Curriculum guidance:
- Guide teachers in planning and implementing basic yet effective learning interventions and activities to identify students with marginal needs
- Provide support in developing curriculum for the learning needs.
- Manage and organise individualised resources and materials.
- Support students in developing literacy and numeracy skills through targeted interventions.
Student Wellbeing and Engagement
- Ensure that the emotional and social support is being provided to students, to promote positive learning experiences in a structured manner.
- Provide advice to Primary school teachers in managing student behavior of students with disability or with marginal needs.
Collaboration and Communication
- Work collaboratively with the Primary teachers, learning support team, school leadership and other corresponding teams to enhance student outcomes under the guidance of Head of Student Learning and Support.
- Maintain open and respectful communication with parents and caregivers regarding student progress.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and training as required.
Administrative and other duties
- Guide Primary teachers and assist in record-keeping and documentation related to student learning progress and outcomes.
- Facilitate the necessary documentation and notes, with diligence and consultation with parents.
- Ensure the interventions are implemented and tracked to oversee student outcomes.
- Support teachers in Learning Support events, and co-curricular activities as and when required.
- Ensure compliance with school policies and child safety regulations.
- Perform other duties as required to support student learning and school operations, under the guidance of Head of Student Learning and Support.
Key Communications
Internal communications:
- Head of Student Learning and Support to receive guidance and direction of the overall Learning Support strategy and scope of work.
- Primary School teachers to liaise with and provide guidance or assistance to, in the learning support space. Student Learning and Support team to collaborate and correspond on various learning support interventions.
External Communications:
- Healthcare professionals
- Parents and families
- NCCD regulators
Challenges
- Ensuring consistency of caring for students’ learning needs and closure of tasks as guided.
- Ensuring that students’ learning experience is consistent across Primary school.
- Ensuring that the Primary school teachers are well-equipped with the required support and instructions.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- It is an inherent requirement of the role that the incumbent have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, actively attend their local Church, and willingly support the vision and practice of the College as stated in:
-the College Statement of Faith,
-the Staff Pledge that is recited annually at the Staff Commissioning Service, and
-the College Codes of Conduct.
- Have relevant qualifications and/or experience in-
-Master’s or Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in learning support (desirable) (OR)
-Experience in special education in students with disability, in an education or school set up (OR)
-Experience in working with students in a learning support or teaching assistant role or experience in Special education.
- Participate in AIS relevant networks associated with the role.
- Demonstrated experience in the following competencies:
Communication and interpersonal skills
-Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with students, Primary teachers, and parents.
-Ability to provide differentiated and individualised learning support to students with diverse needs.
-A caring, patient, and encouraging approach to working with young learners and the teaching staff.

Technical & Organisational Skills
- Proficiency in using digital tools to support learning (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Google Classroom).
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities efficiently.
Selection Criteria
- It is an inherent requirement of the role that the incumbent have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, actively attend their local Church, and willingly support the vision of the College.
- Knowledge of and a deep commitment to child safety in an education setting.
- Current Working with Children Check.
- Have relevant qualifications and/or experience in-
i. Master’s or Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in learning support (OR)
ii. Experience in special education in students with disability, in an education or school set up (OR)
iii. Experience in working with students in a learning support or teaching assistant role or experience in Special education.
