Position Information
Mudgee High is a rural comprehensive school catering for more than 800 students from Years 7-12, 13% of whom identify as ATSI. The school is in the Central West of New South Wales in a region well-known for its tourism, agriculture and mining. Mudgee High has served the local community for more than 100 years and possesses a well-respected history of academic, cultural and sporting achievement. In 2023, external validation judged the school as excelling in several areas. Restorative practices and the recognition of academic, cultural and kinaesthetic achievement all underpin that success. The comprehensive curriculum offered at Mudgee High allows students to access a wide range of courses for both university and non-university pathways, with an excellent track record for transition success. Stage 5 elective courses are vertically integrated, broadening further what the school can offer. Mudgee High has a strong relationship with the broader community, and enjoys a supportive Parents and Citizens’ Association and an equally supportive local Aboriginal Education Consultative Group. Each year, Year 12 students engage in charity fundraising that involves the entire community and has been recognised nationally. The school boasts modern science laboratories, trade training facilities, technology workshops, creative and performing arts facilities, gymnasium, a wellbeing centre, and a well-appointed library resource centre, all of which work well to support the engagement and development of its students. In 2026, the school's support class offerings will expand from nine to ten.
Specific Selection Criteria
- Approval to teach and/or experience in teaching Special Education including teaching students with autism, mild intellectual disorder, moderate intellectual disorder, emotional disturbance and/or behavioural disturbance.
- Ability to develop and deliver effective and engaging teaching programs for students with disabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and evaluate quality individual personalised learning support and behaviour plans to facilitate improved student learning outcomes.
- Well developed communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work on and foster positive partnerships with students, staff, families, external providers and the wider community
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
