The Bass Strait Maritime Museum (BSMM) is a hub of maritime history, knowledge, and culture situated in the heart of Devonport, Tasmania. Our mission is to preserve and showcase the rich maritime heritage of the region, ensuring that the stories and artifacts of our past continue to inspire and educate present and future generations.

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our team as the Part-Time – Fixed Term (5 years) Curator of Collections and Engagement. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the strategic management and development of BSMM’s collections and archives, while also leading initiatives to engage and enrich the visitor experience in alignment with our core mission.

- Appropriate tertiary qualifications and/or experience in cultural heritage management *
- Knowledge and understanding of current, Australian museum practices, including procedures appropriate for the presentation, care, and upkeep of collection materials and associated data. *
- Experienced in managing digital and hard-copy archives *
- Able to support the delivery of high-quality data and interpretive information through exceptional research and writing skills *
- Knowledge and understanding of collection management systems and accessioning and deaccessioning policies and procedures *
- Experience of delivering educational content in a public setting, and an appreciation for the principles of Object Based Learning *
- Highly developed computer skills and experience with complex software applications *
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills *
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse range of individuals and to function successfully both as part of a multidisciplinary team and independently. *
