Overview
The Plant Biosecurity Officer contributes to the achievement of Plant Biosecurity Operations objectives through planning, delivering, reviewing, and reporting on plant health programs and outcomes, including the management of surveillance, and associated regulatory activities and obligations. The role interprets and evaluates research findings and uses professional judgment to make decisions along with the management of various complex and politically sensitive projects and activities associated with plant health and plant pest management functions. The role contributes to PIRSA’s strategic priorities, including overall responsibility for biosecurity, plant pest policy, planning, surveillance, preparedness, incursion response and ongoing management.

Responsibilities
- Plan, deliver, review, and report on plant health programs and outcomes, including surveillance and regulatory activities and obligations.
- Interpret and evaluate research findings and use professional judgment to make decisions on complex projects and activities related to plant health and pest management.
- Contribute to PIRSA’s strategic priorities including biosecurity, plant pest policy, planning, surveillance, preparedness, incursion response, and ongoing management.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Possession of a current driver’s licence and willingness to drive.
- Out of hours work and inter/intrastate travel may be required.
- You acknowledge your work, health and safety obligations and our expectations when applying for a role.
- The incumbent will be required to undertake emergency management training and must be willing to participate in emergency preparedness, response and recovery activities required by government agencies.
- Essential: A degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Entomology, Agriculture or similar; Technical expertise in ecological processes, environmental principles, surveillance, entomology, or equivalent.
Remuneration
PO2 - $88,255 min - $97,667 max per annum, plus superannuation
