**Who we are**
The Plant Health Policy Branch provides a national focal point for plant biosecurity issues within Australia and has responsibility for the national leadership in managing Australia's plant health. The work of the branch underpins biosecurity and helps to open new, and maintain existing, domestic and international markets for Australian plant industries. This is achieved by; providing focus for national and international plant biosecurity activities; preparing for and coordinating national responses to plant pests and exotic weeds; promoting reform of the plant biosecurity system; improving plant health capacity and capabilities in near-neighbour countries and trading partners; domestically improving national surveillance and diagnostic capability and capacity; and assisting the department to meet national and international obligations and influencing plant health policies.

The Surveillance Section coordinates surveillance policy, innovation and information exchange to support a robust, nationally integrated and collaborative plant biosecurity surveillance system that meets national biosecurity objectives.

**The Job**
We are building a team of data analysts and modellers to design plant biosecurity surveillance systems and analyse pest data to better manage pest risks. The team will use their knowledge of ecology, biosecurity, statistics, data management and/or modelling to build products that provide quantitative support for making policy decisions and guide operational surveillance programs. The Data Analysts / Modellers team will be responsible for:

- Using biosecurity data and ecological research to develop models for pest establishment.
- Providing technical and policy advice on the design and evaluation of surveillance activity.
- Managing and curating spatial data and other model inputs.
- Developing statistical models for analysing surveillance data to aid decision-making.
- Integrating analyses into information management environments and developing reporting products for less technical users.

**What are we looking for**
**Knowledge and Experience**
- Knowledge of plant or animal ecology, epidemiology, biosecurity or statistics.
- Previous experience in evaluating evidence and delivering scientific advice to decision makers.
- Knowledge of data management principles, particularly spatial data.
- Experience in the use of statistical or ecological modelling tools.
- A proven record of delivering results in accordance with project management principles.
