This pivotal role will see you championing the development and implementation of a comprehensive roadmap for inclusive infrastructure design across Queensland state schools, directly contributing to a transformative 10-year Infrastructure for Learning plan. What you'll do:
As Principal Project Officer Inclusive Design, you will play a central role in driving forward an ambitious agenda to embed inclusivity at the heart of school infrastructure planning. Your day-to-day work will involve developing robust frameworks that set new benchmarks for accessibility and equity in educational environments. You will engage deeply with stakeholders from varied backgrounds—ensuring their voices shape every stage of the process—and transform these insights into clear guidance that can be readily adopted by project teams. Success in this role means delivering high-impact outcomes within tight timeframes while maintaining meticulous attention to detail in documentation and reporting. Your ability to collaborate across functions will be essential as you help steer complex projects towards lasting positive change.
- Lead the research, design, and delivery of an inclusive infrastructure design framework tailored for Queensland state schools, ensuring it meets the needs of all learners.
- Provide expert strategic analysis and advice to inform policy development across planning, asset management, and educational contexts.
- Plan and facilitate targeted engagement activities with diverse stakeholder groups—including students, staff, First Nations representatives, and equity advocates—to ensure broad input into design processes.
- Translate insights from research and stakeholder engagement into actionable principles, guidance documents, and practical tools ready for project implementation.
- Manage project milestones, risks, reporting requirements, and dependencies to guarantee timely delivery within the fixed 18-month term.
- Prepare high-quality briefing notes, reports, visual frameworks, and presentations tailored for executive audiences to support informed decision-making.
- Collaborate effectively across infrastructure, policy, and education teams to influence enduring systems change in line with organisational objectives.
- Identify opportunities for pilot initiatives or demonstration projects that showcase the application of inclusive design principles in real-world settings.
- Ensure compliance with relevant design standards, codes, legislation, and policy throughout all stages of project delivery.

- Strong engagement skills with proven ability to co-design solutions alongside diverse groups including under-represented communities.
- Proven track record managing projects independently while delivering quality outputs within fixed deadlines is required.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are necessary for producing well-structured reports, briefing notes, minutes, and correspondence for various audiences.
- Confidence using Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, PowerBi, Microsoft Teams; experience with records management tools such as Content Manager is advantageous.
- Basic data collection and analysis capabilities are important for evidence-based decision making throughout project lifecycles.
- A background or qualifications in education, infrastructure planning, architecture/design, public policy or human-centred design would be highly regarded but are not mandatory.
- Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams while maintaining a strong focus on achieving shared outcomes.
