Lead a team of dedicated and passionate staff and volunteers to improve employment outcomes for people seeking asylum in Australia.

The Employment Manager is responsible for leading a team of employees and volunteers who assist people seeking protection living in our community to rebuild their working lives in Australia. Your exceptional leadership skills will provide support and guidance to the team and work closely with other Service Managers and the Executive team. You will excel in maintaining a professional environment that provides resources for your team to continue providing high‑quality outcomes. This is a permanent, full‑time position at 38 hours per week based in Newtown.

Responsibilities

- Lead and manage the Employment Services team, including staff development and performance reviews.

- Ensure all day‑to‑day operations of the Employment Service run smoothly and efficiently, including 1:1 support, work readiness workshops, mentoring, and post‑placement support.

- Monitor, evaluate and improve service operations in line with ASC Strategic plan to ensure the best outcomes for ASC clients.

- Balance high demand for our service with the need for tailored, trauma‑informed, person‑centred support.

- Manage implementation and evaluation of key projects within the Employment Team, including grant‑funded and government‑funded, pay‑per‑outcome projects.

- Assist in providing training, guidance and support to the Employment Service's volunteers to enable them to meet the needs of clients.

- Work with the Philanthropy and Fundraising teams to identify and support grant applications and acquittals for funding of the Employment Service.

- Develop and conduct information sessions and training for employers and volunteers to increase support mechanisms around employment for people from refugee backgrounds.

- Develop and maintain a network of employers of people seeking asylum and expand employment pathways.

Selection Criteria

- Demonstrated experience managing a team in an employment services, recruitment, human services or similar sector.

- Demonstrated experience managing, motivating, supporting and inspiring staff and volunteers in a complex and challenging environment.

- A strong understanding of issues relating to people seeking asylum from a human rights perspective and ability to address those in implementing ASC's organisational and team strategies.

- Ability to manage delivery of services with an effective client‑centred approach.

- Excellent communication, interpersonal and written skills.

- Understanding of the principles of change management to help others adapt to change.

- Commitment to results; a “can‑do” mindset with emphasis on accountability, data management and people‑focused outcomes.

- Demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining successful internal and external stakeholder relationships.

- Strong analytical and reporting skills, able to use data as a mechanism for advocacy for clients and the organisation.

- Specific knowledge of the humanitarian sector and/or CALD communities.

- Experience in advocacy and policy.

- Experience in social impact evaluation.
