Senior Data Centre Network Planning Engineer

About Us:

Jemena is an Australian energy company who own and operate more than $12.4 Billion worth of gas and electricity transportation assets across Australia supplying millions of households and businesses with these essential services every day.

We pride ourselves on our innovative approach, technical expertise, and dedication to safety, quality, and sustainability. Our Group’s over 3000 team members, consistently strive to make a difference in the communities we serve.

At Jemena, we’re proud to power possibilities — for communities, industries, and innovation. We're looking for a Senior Data Centre Network Planning Engineer who thrives in a collaborative environment and is passionate about designing smart, sustainable infrastructure that truly serves people and businesses.

In this meaningful and future-focused role, you’ll lead the planning and development of Jemena’s sub-transmission network, helping deliver high-capacity electricity supply to a growing number of data centre customers while supporting our existing network.

You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams, bringing your technical expertise and problem-solving mindset to ensure our network is efficient, resilient, and aligned with long-term strategic goals.

You’ll play a key role in shaping the delivery of critical infrastructure, where your leadership will support both our Data Centre program and broader operational and asset management goals.

This is an exciting role with a high profile, including exposure to senior management and communication with key customers. You will be working within a newly formed team of specialist engineers and project managers, specifically focused on data centre projects.

Your Contribution:

- Network Development: Prepare load forecasting, staging plans, and network modelling to guide network augmentation and capacity upgrades.

- Collaborative Capacity Planning: Working with other parties (including other DNSP’s and AEMO) as part of the joint planning process to progress appropriate solutions to meet customer demand.

- Empowering Projects: Develop technical scopes for connecting new data centres to the network and ensure smooth delivery through close support of project teams — from early design through to commissioning.

- Thoughtful Leadership: Offer guidance and insights that align engineering decisions with Jemena’s commercial, operational, and environmental objectives.

About You

You’re an experienced engineering professional who brings not just technical excellence, but a collaborative, inclusive, and strategic approach to your work. You enjoy building strong relationships across teams and are motivated by the opportunity to make a lasting, positive impact through your expertise.

Here’s what you’ll bring:

- A recognised degree in electrical engineering (eligible for membership with Engineers Australia).

- At least 7 years of experience in the electricity supply industry, preferably in Network Capacity Planning.

- A strong understanding of how distribution networks and zone substations operate.

- Specialist knowledge of the joint planning process, regulatory processes and the Victorian Declared Shared Network.

- Demonstrated experience in PSSE with proficiency in load flow analysis and fault level studies

- Familiarity with the latest network planning tools.

- Strong understanding of Regulatory Investment Tests for Transmission (RIT-T) and Distribution (RIT-D).

- Experience in performing economic assessments of network augmentations projects and preparation of technical inputs for regulatory submissions.

- A broad view of secondary systems and how they integrate into larger infrastructure.

- A passion for learning, evolving technology, and creating value through innovation.

Why you should come and work for us

Our people are our energy source and we offer meaningful benefits and rewards that work for you. We offer the opportunity for long term career growth as part of our talent development and succession planning process.

We are committed to developing a diverse and inclusive workforce that reflects the communities we are part of. We welcome applications from people of all ages, backgrounds, abilities, and identities. At Jemena, you belong.
