Corporate Counsel, Privacy will be responsible for supporting continued compliance with privacy laws and regulations within Ramsay Health Care Australia (RHCA). Reporting to the Chief Privacy Officer, the general duties of this role will include monitoring privacy compliance across RHCA, advising on privacy-related matters including data breach, policy development and amendment, conducting Privacy Impacts Assessments (particularly regarding technology systems and strategies), and providing relevant training and education to stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Solicitor admitted to a Supreme Court of a State of Australia.
- Minimum of 4 years post admission experience.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in a Data Privacy or related field including:
- Identifying and assessing risks related to privacy
- Responding to data privacy breaches, and implementing appropriate corrective actions
- Working knowledge of Commonwealth and State based legislation across Australia, including legislative review
- Excellent understanding of the legal obligations of data privacy & information and the application of same.
- Proven ability to collaborate and work in a cross-functional team (e.g., Digital, Data Governance, Security, and/or Risk) to ensure that privacy considerations are integrated into new projects and initiatives.
- Experience providing detailed and practical advice in relation to complex privacy issues, new projects and initiatives.
- Excellent relationship management with ability to engage with stakeholders throughout the organisation at various levels.
- Proven effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to work confidently and effectively in a team environment and independently as required.
- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently, with attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
- Previous experience in the health sector
- Experience assessing privacy risks with the deployment and use of AI systems
- Understanding of data governance and information security
- Experience providing training and education on privacy to staff and stakeholders, including developing and delivering training materials
Use Cases
- Investigating, managing and responding to privacy complaints and data breaches and taking appropriate corrective action as required.
- Collaborating with other departments and stakeholders to ensure that privacy considerations are integrated into new projects and initiatives.
- Staying informed of changes in privacy laws and regulations and advising RHCA team on any updates to ensure RHCA is compliant.
- Providing advice, training and education on privacy to staff and stakeholders, including developing and delivering training materials.
- Building relationships and assisting a range of stakeholders in the conduct of data privacy and information security activities, including working with external privacy and security specialists.
- Effectively balancing competing demands and delivering a range of project management and support services, within tight deadlines.

- Ensuring compliance with privacy laws and regulations within RHCA.
- Assisting the Chief Privacy Officer with internal and external reporting obligations.
