The APS 5 ICT Support Engineer will perform and achieve moderately complex ICT support engineering under routine direction. They are responsible for ensuring compliance with legislative frameworks and Defence policies, managing workflows, and improving work quality through feedback and on-the-job training. Effective stakeholder engagement is essential, with responsibilities including identifying and responding to issues and providing informed advice.

Key responsibilities:

- Data processing using an Extract Transform Load (ETL) system or application
- Managing and supporting an existing team of technicians, troubleshooting and improving data synchronisation services
- Diagnosing and problem-solving data and application issues using SQL scripting and standard application troubleshooting techniques
- Supporting the Operations Manager with planning and scoping projects for clients
- Monitoring and triaging incoming helpdesk incidents
- Resolving incidents, focusing on customer service and client outcomes
- Reviewing and writing procedural documents of system improvements and new solutions
- Creating and updating directorate website content
- Providing on-call support on a scheduled rotation

Cyber Operations Division (COD) is responsible for the integration, operation, management and security of Defence's global strategic communications capability that enable military operations and support Defence business. COD is also responsible at the strategic level to the Chief of Defence Force and Chief of Joint Operations for advice and technical control for the Command, Control, Communications and Cyber security in support of ADF Operations.

Our Ideal Candidate

An APS 5 ICT Support Engineer in Defence performs a range of moderately complex ICT support tasks, including hardware and software maintenance, installation, and removal using provided tools and instructions. They resolve ICT incidents, implement changes, and seek guidance from senior colleagues when needed.

The role requires applying technical knowledge of systems to support ICT processes and outcomes. Engineers maintain up-to-date vendor knowledge and use support products effectively. They build strong working relationships within teams and actively contribute to group activities. Stakeholder engagement is key, with a focus on understanding expectations and concerns. APS5 Engineers investigate and recommend solutions to ICT incidents and use their expertise to resolve problems, often identifying alternative approaches. The role demands initiative, technical proficiency, and a commitment to achieving Defence outcomes through effective support and collaboration.

Salary: $86,887 - $93,066 + up to 15.4% Superannuation. Locations: Canberra - ACT, Laverton - VIC.
