Job Description

Ability Action Australia's Gold Coast team are looking for an experienced BSP or candidates considering a new career pathway within Behaviour Support - that come from a strong background in either the disability or mental health sector.

To be considered suitable you will have:

- Assisting NDIS participants, along with their families and/or carers, to manage challenging behaviours to improve their quality of life, and develop new skills

- Complete thorough assessments to understand behaviour triggers, identify risks & consider specific strategies to improve behaviour outcomes

- Develop Behaviour Support Plans and provide support to families and/or carers, for consistent implementation

- Maintain a caseload with ongoing monitoring, support and make adjustments where required

- Develop meaningful goals and practical strategies utilising a positive behaviour support framework, with a commitment to eliminate restrictive practices, in the home and community

- Ensure individual plans reflect our NDIS participants' goals, passions and strengths, as well as ensuring they get more out of life

- Build the knowledge, capacity and strengths of those who support participants in their lives - family, carers or friends

- Act as an advocate and role model for best practice

- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team

Qualifications

To be considered suitable you will have:

- Current suitability as a BSP - as confirmed by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission

- Completed a degree level qualification as an allied health professional - Social Work, OT, Speech, Psychology degree's preferred

- 1 - 2 years employment experience working with challenging behaviors as a Mental Health or Disability Support Worker

- Excellent time management and organisational skills to manage a varied caseload

- Proactive attitude, motivated by improvement and the opportunity to test and learn from new ideas

- Genuine passion for working in the disability sector
