Role
Reporting to the Whynot Bord and Pillar Project Manager and working as an integral part of the team, the primary purpose of this role is to coordinate, implement, and support health, safety, and training initiatives across the Whynot Bord and Pillar Underground Operation. This includes overseeing compliance with statutory and site specific safety requirements, maintaining training records and competencies, facilitating site inductions, and promoting a proactive safety culture through effective communication and engagement.
Responsibilities
- Manage and monitor compliance to the Safety and Health Management Systems on site and provide advice to the senior leadership team on possible improvement initiatives
- Analyse safety results on site and provide knowledge to the operations team to improve safety performance
- Understanding of processes and frameworks within the underground coal mining industry including knowledge of related New South Wales legislation
- Facilitation of Critical Risk Assessments and mentoring of the risk assessment process across front line and middle management teams
- Coordinate the Critical Control Monitoring Program
- Engage with the workforce to encourage a culture of safety and a safe working environment
- Coordinate the maintenance of the Safety & Action Management Data Base for Maxwell/Malabar
- Report safety statistics to PIMS Group with detail and rectification plans/actions
- Analyse both leading and lagging safety-specific data (incidents, near misses, hazard reports, investigations, visible leadership interactions, etc) and identify negative safety trends requiring attention and rectification
- Assist with audit and inspection programs as required on site
- Lead incident / accident investigations (ICAM) as required
- Monitor the implementation of safety programs and participate in safety interventions
- Manage site return to work and rehabilitation programs as the primary Return to Work Coordinator for our employees
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory bodies and standards as required in NSW coal mining
- Develop and oversee the health and hygiene monitoring program
