The Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist’s role is to engage, educate and lead clinicians while conducting retrospective and concurrent reviews of clinical documentation to ensure that best practice standards are met. The role aims to ensure that clinical documentation accurately captures the patient episode of care including diagnostic information, treatment plan, clinical treatment, clinical reasoning, and decision making. The role involves key responsibilities such as participating in ward rounds, grand rounds, divisional and other meeting forums to deliver educational aspects of documentation improvement and policy advice in compliance with national standards.
