Overview

Senior Lawyer role at a firm that's doing things a little differently, proudly values-led and people-first. The role involves handling family law matters with an emphasis on the human side of the work and serving a diverse client base.

Environment/Team/Culture

This is a values-led, inclusive, and compassionate law firm founded by two senior family law specialists. The team is collaborative, social, and strives to celebrate individuality. The firm values diversity in practice and environment, not just on paper.

The Role/Types of Clients/Work Involved

This client is seeking a Senior Family Lawyer with the right attitude, personality, and work experience, and a strong orientation toward the human aspects of family law. Ideally experienced in divorce and separation matters, with either LGBTQ+ allyship or direct experience in this space. The team prioritises collaboration and community, with a professional but relaxed vibe.

The client base is diverse, including LGBTQ+ clients (about 40% of matters) and many clients who are neurodiverse, trauma-affected, or from non-traditional family setups. You'll often work with trans and gender-diverse clients who trust the firm to listen without judgment and handle complex personal matters with care. The firm is known for holding space for clients and taking time to unpack layers of issues.

This role suits someone who is emotionally intelligent, open, and curious—someone who listens deeply, embraces difference, and can navigate sensitive, challenging matters. Flexible work arrangements include the option to work from either the Newtown or Macquarie Park office, plus some work-from-home time, with a supportive team backing you.

Is this the right role for me?

If you love law, work well with diverse people, have the hustle mindset, and want to enjoy your work, this is a good fit. You'll be supported to do meaningful work in a genuinely diverse environment where your personality and lived experience are strengths.

Responsibilities

- Engage in divorce and separation matters with a focus on the human aspect of client relationships.
- Collaborate with a team that values inclusion, listening, and thoughtful problem-solving.
- Provide counsel and support to clients from diverse backgrounds, including LGBTQ+ and gender-diverse individuals.
- Navigate sensitive, complex personal matters with care and discretion.
- Contribute to a positive, collaborative office culture and flexible work arrangements.

Qualifications and Qualities

- Qualified Senior Lawyer with substantial family law experience, particularly in divorce and separation matters.
- Demonstrated emotional intelligence, openness, and curiosity; ability to listen deeply and embrace difference.
- Experience or comfort working with LGBTQ+ clients and trans/gender-diverse individuals is preferred.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment and manage a diverse client base.
