The role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Graduate Environmental Health Officer to join our Public Health and Environment team. In this role, you will contribute to the monitoring and regulation of food and health premises across the City to support the safety, health and wellbeing of our community. This position offers hands-on experience across a variety of environmental health matters and is ideal for a recent graduate looking to launch their local government career.
Duties
- Carry out inspections and regulatory actions for food premises, skin penetration businesses, public pools, cooling towers and boarding houses.
- Assist in investigations of environmental issues and major pollution incidents.
- Support the implementation of educational programs on public and environmental health.
- Provide input on Development Applications involving contaminated land or environmental concerns.
- Prepare reports, correspondence and represent Council in formal meetings when required.
- Liaise with external agencies and community stakeholders on public health matters.
- Ensure accurate documentation and uphold legislative compliance.

What you will have
- Recently completed a tertiary qualification in Environmental Health or Public Health.
- A sound understanding of relevant legislation, including the Local Government Act, Food Act, and Public Health Act.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with a professional approach to regulatory duties.
- Excellent problem-solving and investigative skills.
- A current Class C Driver’s Licence.
- Prior experience in public or environmental health (paid or unpaid) is highly desirable.
The salary range for this opportunity starts at $71,819 (Grade D, Step 1) plus 12% super.
