Introduction

ArcelorMittal South Africa is currently recruiting a Senior Metallurgical Engineer

Key Performance Areas

• Contribute towards the optimization of the economic value of the products made by improving the product and quality performance of production units

• Contribute to ArcelorMittal's strategy through the improvement of the quality of AMSA products

• Liaise with R&D on benchmarking or best practices towards a CI focus on products and quality improvement

• Develop and implement new customer standards (internal and external) in consultation with Operations and Customer Technical Services

• Develop and audit production processes to sustain behavioural change in production, maintenance, planning, and quality control

• Final decision-making authority on the release of material to customers

• Conduct trend and situation analysis at a higher level to assist and direct production and progress teams in root cause analysis (apply Six Sigma or other analysis tool)

• Ensure detailed analysis of defect and product performance trends as experienced by internal and external customers

• Ensure that action plans to improve quality are implemented, maintained, and controlled

• Initiate and implement improvement projects and ideas that have a strategic and longer-term impact

• Communicate effectively to persuade and influence stakeholders

• Coach, develop, and improve quality training manuals for Inspectors, Superintendents,

• Process Controllers, Technicians, and Quality Controllers

• Collaborate with Engineers and other technical staff successfully

• Manage long-term pro-active relationships with customers (internal and external)

Qualifications

• B-Eng. Degree (NQF 8) in Metallurgical (Physical)

• ECSA registration

• Preferably a Management Development Program

Skills and Experience

• Minimum 6 years with an applicable quality management background

• Experience, knowledge, and understanding of the following codes: ISO9001:2015,

• OHSAS45001:2018, ISO14001:2015

• Extensive knowledge of internal production processes (Long Prod - QM Product Management )

• Extensive knowledge of products produced (properties, dimensions, and end uses)

• Computer proficiency (SAP, Microsoft Office, IQMS, Business Objects, Phoenix,
CGSIS)

• Compliance with legal requirements for the business unit as per the OHS Act 85 of 1993
