About the Role
Part Time: 0.2 FTE (Full time equivalent)
Location: Merrylands Public School
School psychologists are essential members of the Department’s school counselling service, working in primary and high schools. They provide counselling and psychological assessment of students to complement and enhance the work of teachers, aiming to strengthen learning outcomes and well‑being, and help families understand and manage their children’s learning and mental health needs.
This role offers unique challenges and opportunities for professional development and impactful work on the lives of children and young people.
The successful candidate will be based at Merrylands Public School and will have opportunities to work across the lifespan with primary and high school‑aged students. Working in a NSW public school offers the chance to engage with a diverse student population and communities, making a real difference at a critical time in children's lives.
School psychologists receive individual professional supervision from the Senior Psychologist Education and participate in group supervision as a member of the broader school counselling team. They collaborate with a range of school communities, colleagues, and outside agencies, leveraging a full range of skills in a supportive, multidisciplinary team.
School psychologists are provided with opportunities to participate in continuing professional development and the NSW Department of Education will support completion or maintenance of registration with the Psychology Board of Australia. Additional benefits include a range of leave types, including recreation and flex leave, leave loading, travel allowances, and health and well‑being benefits such as the Fitness Passport program. The department covers indemnity insurance for psychologists while working in schools.
Find out more about working as a school psychologist on the school counselling service pages of the NSW Department of Education website.
