Position Information
Five Dock Public School is situated in Sydney’s Inner West and has a total enrolment of 350 students, with 16 classes (12 mainstream, 4 special education classes), along with a Department preschool. Our diverse student population also represents a wide range of socio-economic backgrounds. Our school’s physical environment is welcoming, inclusive and designed to support continuous improvement.
We foster a learning culture of high expectations, nurturing students in an inclusive environment that promotes a strong sense of belonging. Our aim is to develop curious, empathetic, resilient, reflective, and active learners. We value strong community connections and shared responsibility for student learning and wellbeing. Our school offers a range of academic, creative, and extracurricular activities—such as dance, music, sport, debating, chess, and writing—designed to foster students’ talents and passions.
A strong culture of collaboration supports teachers to deepen their understanding of evidence‑informed best practices. Our school’s focus is on explicit teaching and the effective use of formative assessment to inform responsive teaching and deliver timely, meaningful feedback. Targeted professional learning, directly connected to classroom practice, underpins our school plan and supports ongoing school improvement.
A planned and proactive approach to wellbeing continues to be a school priority, emphasising student advocacy, belonging, and improved attendance. Our community takes pride in a shared philosophy of inclusivity, recognising that every child is an individual capable of realising their potential. Families are encouraged to engage actively in their children’s education, contributing to positive learning, wellbeing, and social outcomes. Students in our Inclusive Education Unit are valued and integral members of our school community. They are supported to access learning on the same basis as their mainstream peers, with many opportunities for integration in classroom learning and playground activities.
