Health & Safety Manager

City of Brisbane, Australia Civil Mining & Construction Pty Ltd Full time

Lead safety strategy, drive cultural change, and protect what matters most for a leading civil contractor.

CMC is a respected civil construction contractor with a proud 20-year history and an unwavering commitment to safety and excellence. With major projects underway and new opportunities on the horizon, we are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Health & Safety Manager to lead our safety function and take a strategic, whole-of-business view on health and safety.

This is not a clipboard-and-checklist safety role. As part of the senior leadership team, you’ll be instrumental in shaping a safety-first culture across the organisation - combining boots-on-the-ground credibility with the ability to influence senior leaders, operational teams, and subcontractors alike.

You’ll have the backing of a business that genuinely prioritises wellbeing - and the opportunity to make a lasting impact through proactive systems, engaged leadership, and meaningful consultation.

About the Role

Reporting to the Executive Manager of Operations and working closely with project and executive leaders, you will:

- Champion CMC’s zero-harm approach and lead visible safety leadership initiatives;

- Manage, maintain, and improve our integrated HSE management systems and documentation;

- Oversee OHS audits, incident investigations, and root cause analyses;

- Lead the development and delivery of training and mentoring programs to lift safety capability;

- Partner with teams across Precontracts, Operations, and Delivery to embed safety early;

- Maintain company-wide safety reporting systems, legal and risk registers;

- Drive improvements to performance metrics, lead indicators, and safety outcomes;

- Support accreditation and compliance efforts, ensuring all legislative requirements are met;

- Represent CMC externally on OHS matters — with clients, regulators, and industry stakeholders.

This is a strategic role with operational influence - a rare opportunity to lead change while staying closely connected to the field.

About You

You’re an experienced safety leader with a practical mindset, high standards, and the ability to inspire others to live the values of safety every day. You’re not just compliant - you’re proactive, curious, and solutions-focused.

You’ll bring:

- A Bachelor’s degree in OHS, Civil Engineering, or a related field;

- Certificate IV or Diploma in WHS (or equivalent recognised qualification);

- Minimum 5 years in a senior HSE role within civil construction or infrastructure projects;

- Expert-level knowledge of WHS Act 2011, relevant codes of practice, and standards;

- Proven ability to lead HSE systems, investigations, audits, and risk assessments;

- Strong leadership and coaching skills with the ability to influence at all levels;

- Experience working with major infrastructure contractors, government clients, and subcontractors;

- Confidence to represent the business in audits, forums, and industry discussions.

Familiarity with safety performance benchmarking, permit-to-work systems, and emergency response planning is highly regarded.

Why Join CMC?

At CMC, safety is more than a metric - it’s a mindset. We’ve built a culture where people are supported, empowered, and expected to take safety seriously. As our new Health & Safety Manager, you’ll have the platform, support, and influence to raise the bar - and be recognised for the impact you make.

Join a team that values integrity, excellence, and looking after its people.
