Business Development Manager – NSW Operations
Lead with purpose. Grow with impact.
Location: NSW – Flexible (Central Coast, Newcastle or Sydney)
Job Type: Full Time
Reports to: Managing Director
At Travers bushfire & ecology, we’re not just growing a business—we’re growing impact across landscapes, communities and sectors that shape our future. We are seeking a Business Development Manager with extensive experience in environmental consulting to lead strategic growth and engagement across the industry, energy, government and development sectors.
This is a high-level role that reports directly to the Managing Director and plays a key part in our NSW Operations leadership. We are looking for a confident, connected and capable individual who understands the consulting landscape deeply, and who thrives in a high-performance, purpose-driven team.
About the role
As Business Development Manager, you will be the lead driver of strategic client growth and sector engagement, contributing to the expansion of our work in bushfire planning, ecological assessment, arboriculture, heritage and more.
You will draw upon a strong track record of business development in the environmental consultancy space, with a clear understanding of client needs and project realities across regulatory, infrastructure and land-use contexts.
This is a career role for someone ready to build meaningful, long-term relationships and contribute to shaping the business’ future direction and impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead business development strategy across key sectors: industry, energy, government agencies, and private development.
- Build new client relationships and strengthen existing partnerships to secure a robust, sustainable project pipeline.
- Lead or contribute to proposal development, tender submissions, and strategic growth planning.
- Promote and position Travers’ multidisciplinary services across bushfire, ecology, heritage, and arboriculture.
- Collaborate across teams to align delivery with strategic objectives and client expectations.
- Monitor and report on business development performance and market opportunities directly to the Managing Director.
Who We’re Looking For
We are seeking a high-performance leader with a strong commercial mindset, exceptional relationship skills, and proven success in environmental consultancy across sectors. You understand complexity, speak the language of clients, and know how to convert opportunity into long-term value—for both the client and the community.
You bring:
- A goal-oriented, proactive mindset with high accountability.
- Positive, professional presence, with the ability to lead from the front.
- Experience navigating multi-stakeholder environments and complex delivery contexts.
- Confidence in constructive feedback and performance development.
- A strong sense of integrity, leadership and commitment to results.
- Ability to self-report and deliver on SMART performance objectives.
- A desire to grow with the business and contribute over the long term.
- Minimum 8–10 years’ experience in business development or senior client-facing roles within an environmental consulting business.
- Demonstrated success in building client networks, winning work, and delivering value in sectors such as:
- Major infrastructure and industry
- Renewable and conventional energy
- Local, state and federal government
- Land development and planning
- Deep understanding of the services, technical disciplines, and commercial dynamics in environmental consultancy.
- Excellent communication, presentation and negotiation skills.
- Proven ability to lead strategy and reporting functions in a performance-focused environment.
- Familiarity with relevant legislation, approvals processes, and government procurement pathways.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with teams across multiple service lines.
- Experience using CRM and digital tools to support pipeline and relationship management.
What You’ll Get
- Strategic role with real influence over growth and direction.
- Direct access to leadership, including the Managing Director.
- Flexible/hybrid work arrangements + Kariong and Beresfield offices.
- Ongoing training, professional development and leadership pathways.
- Work phone, laptop, and access to field vehicles if needed.
- Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for 24/7 wellbeing support.
- Participation in our Sustainability Offset Program—contribute to planting and carbon reduction.
