The Aboriginal Medical Services Alliance Northern Territory (AMSANT) is the peak body for Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHSs) in the Northern Territory. Based in Darwin, AMSANT advocates for Aboriginal health equity and supports the delivery of high-quality, culturally appropriate primary health care services across remote and urban communities. With over two decades of experience, AMSANT plays a vital leadership role in policy development, capacity building, workforce support, and sector coordination. We work closely with our member services, governments, and other stakeholders to influence health reform and improve the health and well-being of Aboriginal people in the NT.

AMSANT is seeking a full-time Human Resources Manager to join our Darwin-based team. Reporting to the Deputy CEO, this is more than a compliance role - it’s a chance to shape AMSANT’s people and culture strategy while mentoring upcoming HR talent.

You will lead AMSANT’s HR operations and strategy, ensuring compliance with legislation and embedding a values-led approach across all aspects of HR. Equally important, you’ll mentor and guide emerging HR professionals, helping them grow their capability and confidence as the future leaders of AMSANT’s people and culture team.

This is a pivotal role at a time of organisational change, where your steady hand and people-first leadership will ensure staff and managers feel supported, valued, and equipped to navigate transitions. You’ll be trusted to handle sensitive issues with empathy and discretion, strengthening relationships across the organisation and safeguarding AMSANT’s reputation.

Key responsibilities include:

- Leading the development and implementation of HR policies, systems, and compliance processes
- Advising and coaching managers on employee relations, performance, and risk management
- Coordinating recruitment, onboarding, workforce planning, and succession planning
- Ensuring compliance with Fair Work, WHS, IR, and insurance obligations
- Managing complex HR and industrial relations matters with fairness and diplomacy
- Providing training, mentoring, and support to managers and staff across departments

To qualify, you will need tertiary qualifications in an HR or business-related discipline and at least 4 years of generalist HR experience, with strong knowledge of HR practices, employment legislation, and employee relations.

Beyond technical expertise, you’ll bring a balance of compliance knowledge and relationship-driven leadership. You’re confident navigating complex workplace issues, but equally, you’re empathetic, approachable, and focused on building trust.

You will bring:

- Demonstrated experience coaching and mentoring staff and managers in HR best practices
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, especially in multicultural contexts
- High-level planning and organisational skills to manage HR systems and processes
- Experience with HRIS, workforce planning, and data-driven HR decision-making

Highly regarded experience includes:

- Previous work in not-for-profit or Aboriginal community-controlled organisations
- In-depth knowledge of the Fair Work Act, WHS, and enterprise agreements
- Experience managing workplace compensation and risk-related HR matters

Above all, you are a people-first leader who embraces change and champions culture. You’ll be culturally aware, steady under pressure, and confident in guiding staff and leaders through growth, performance, and transformation.

You will also hold a current Ochre Card and National Police Check, or be willing to obtain one.
