Overview

Senior Data Analyst, Health Workforce Strategy
Full-time Temporary with a Possibility of Permanency

Are you great at cutting through the noise in the data to focus on what truly matters? Do you thrive on complex challenges, intellectual stimulations, and proactive collaboration? Are you looking for a role that supports sustainable growth and values everyday authenticity?

Join us to tackle real-world problems and shape the future of health workforce planning in the ACT

This is not your typical analyst role. Beyond learning advanced statistical and mathematical methods, you will sharpen your skills in structured problem solving, effective data communication, and making analytical work truly impactful. You will work in an environment that blends curiosity and innovation to solve real-world problems. You will learn from academic and industry leaders, especially on how to extract insights from diverse (and sometimes competing) perspectives. You will help policy areas use analytics meaningfully to drive decisions and achieve impact. You will get to present your work to senior executives. You will expand your professional network and strengthen your presence within the health analytics community.

Responsibilities

- Provide analytics to support health workforce policy decisions and strategic planning.
- Present analytical findings to senior executives and non-technical audiences.
- Collaborate with policy areas to extract insights from diverse data sources and perspectives.
- Apply structured problem-solving approaches to real-world problems and determine appropriate analytical solutions.

Qualifications and attributes

- You are a problem solver. You love asking questions, and you love pushing hard to find the answers. You use analytical and conceptual skills to reason through problems. You know how to put technology to task, and you recognise when a solution might be an algorithm, a database, an application, or none of the above.
- You are a collaborator. You value working with stakeholders who have varying technical capabilities and levels of seniority. You enjoy sharing new ideas, and you communicate clearly with non-technical audiences. You show consideration, concern, and respect for others’ feelings and ideas.
- You are a self-starter and get stuff done. You work independently with some guidance from your manager most of the time. You seize opportunity and act upon them. You actively seek ownership of problems.
- You are committed to professional excellence. You set high standards of performance for self and others. You are committed to learning and improving. You are excited to help solve a currently unsolved problem.
- You are values-driven and keen to understand the bigger picture. You have a reputation for being values led. You share the ACTPS values of Respect, Integrity, Collaboration, and Innovation. You care about more than just completing your tasks and projects.

Our team is built on trust, compassion, fun, performance, and growth. We foster a safe space for open communication, where individual contributions are valued, and challenges are tackled collaboratively. We balance high expectations with genuine care for each other’s wellbeing and let empathy guide our interactions. We bring emojis, memes, and GIFs to our daily work. We deliver high-quality outcomes together, stay focused on what truly matters, and hold ourselves accountable to shared goals. We want you to bring your authentic self to work to grow and thrive professionally and personally.

How to apply We encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet every single requirement. We value diverse experiences, perspectives, and skills. If you are excited about this role and feel you could contribute meaningfully, we would love to hear from you.

We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where people with diverse thoughts, lived experience, and perspectives can thrive and contribute their unique talents to the ACTPS and ACT community. We encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with disability, people with culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, veterans, younger and older workers, and people with diverse genders, sexes and sexualities to apply.

Eligibility/Other Requirements

- Prior to commencement, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.

Notes

This is a temporary position available immediately for a period of six months with the possibility of extension up to 12 months and/or permanency.

- Selection will be based on application, technical assessment, interview, and referee reports.
- An order of merit will be established from this selection process and may be used to fill future identical vacancies over the next 12 months.
- Opportunities for flexible working options could include hybrid working, being a combination of working from home, designated office based and FlexiSpace working locations across the ACT, part-time hours, job-sharing, flexible start, and finish times.
- This position is in a workplace designed for activity-based working (ABW). Under ABW arrangements, officers do not have a designated workstation/desk.

Applications should be submitted via the Apply Now button below.
