Position Information
Brisbane Water Secondary College (BWSC) is proudly located on Darkinjung land. Both campuses sit within the beautiful Brisbane Water environment surrounded by waterways, beaches, mountains and national parks. BWSC is a dynamic comprehensive 7-12 College established to provide inclusive educational experiences in learning environments that cater to the unique needs of middle years learners and senior learners.
Brisbane Water Secondary College Umina Campus has an enrolment of 807 students who are learners in Years 7-9 of which 14% are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander. The Umina Campus has eight support classes specialising in IM, Autism, multicategorical and ED. Our inclusive focus provides high quality learning programs with key strategies for building skills, knowledge and understanding in literacy and numeracy, enrichment, creative and performing arts, targeted sports and leadership. As well, the large College farm, located on the Umina Campus, provides unique opportunities for all College students in Agriculture and Primary Industries.
BWSC is a proud member of the Brisbane Water Learning Community (BWLC) that includes five partner primary schools. The BWLC share a commitment to the vision of a united cohesive K-12 curriculum delivery through quality teaching, and this is the alliance mandate. We work together with Koorana local AECG to co-create and collaborate to ensure all our students learn, grow and belong.
Specific Selection Criteria
- Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,
- Demonstrated capacity to lead staff through the current curriculum reform, syllabus changes and curriculum implementation to successfully create high quality teaching and learning programs with measurable impact for all students.
- Demonstrated capacity to inspire, grow and support staff leading to a collaborative culture and high performing faculty.
- Demonstrated capacity to collaborate effectively with the Campus and College executive teams in the implementation of both Campus and College priorities and initiatives.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to connect with students, parents/carers, teachers and learning community members to effectively build relationships that improve learning outcomes for all students.
General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department/'s Aboriginal education policy

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
