Northern Health are seeking applications from motivated and suitably experienced Grade 3 Speech Pathologist to join the Speech Pathology Department Acute Services
Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourne’s rapidly growing outer north.
Services are provided through our five main campuses:
Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn Centre, and Kilmore District Hospital. In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, Mill Park and Coburg.
About the Role:
Northern Health is seeking applications from motivated and suitably experienced Grade 3 Speech Pathologists to join the Speech Pathology Department, leading the Acute team at Northern Hospital, Epping.
This is a key leadership position for a highly skilled clinician passionate about delivering high-quality, evidence-based care, while shaping the future of Speech Pathology at Northern Health. The successful candidate will provide specialist clinical services, support innovation, and contribute to workforce development and service delivery across the northern catchment.
You will work closely with the Allied Health Director, Workforce Lead, Clinical Leader, and other senior clinicians across Northern Health sites and services, helping to build a skilled, collaborative, and progressive team.
This role requires clinical expertise in acute adult caseloads, particularly in general medicine and neurology. Competency in VFSS (Videofluoroscopic Swallow Study) is essential. Experience with tracheostomy management and/or FEES (Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing) is also highly desirable.
This role requires flexibility to work across different campuses, settings and services. Staff may be required to work after hours, on weekends and public holidays, or work from home to meet operational needs. Compliance with mandatory training as per Northern Health Policy is a requirement of this role.
This role is responsible for:
- Providing high-quality assessment and management of adult patients presenting with communication and swallowing disorders in acute settings.
- Leading and supervising speech pathology clinicians and students.
- Driving innovative clinical practice, quality improvement and research activities.
- Supporting the Associate Director and Clinical Leader with the development and implementation of strategic and operational plans.
- Representing Speech Pathology in internal and external collaborative forums.
- Promoting an organizational culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and evidence-based practice.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Minimum 7 years’ experience in a hospital-based setting.
- Specialist skills in managing swallowing and communication disorders in adults.
- Competency and experience in instrumental assessments.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to inspire and supervise clinicians and students.
- Well-developed interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Experience leading or contributing to quality improvement or research initiatives.
- Ability to work effectively within and lead a multidisciplinary team while fostering a positive organisational culture.
- A strong commitment to providing culturally safe care to Culturally and Linguistically Diverse populations.
- Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant area (or working towards).
