The role

As Systems and Platform Engineer, you will contribute to building the Department into a high-performance, innovative organisation by supporting the design, implementation, operational support and life-cycle management of the department's business platforms and ICT foundation systems both on and off-premises.

Your performance will rely on solid knowledge and experience in the system administration of Windows Server and Linux servers within a large distributed on-premises network, as well as infrastructure scripting and automation. You will also leverage your proficiency in cloud computing fundamentals (pipelines, DevOps, GitHub and AzureCLI) and apply strong written, communication and interpersonal skills.

Eligibility and selection

To be eligible for a permanent appointment, applicants must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or have a visa to live and work indefinitely in Australia at the time of application. For fixed-term employment, applicants must meet the visa requirements stated in the Job Description Form. Qualification verification may be required; overseas qualifications must be assessed to meet Australian Standards.

All applicants must consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC) prior to starting; LGIRS will coordinate and pay for the check if shortlisted.

Responsibilities

- Support the design, implementation, operational support and life-cycle management of the department's business platforms and ICT foundation systems (on-premises and off-premises).
- Administer Windows Server and Linux servers in a large distributed environment; perform infrastructure scripting and automation.
- Leverage cloud computing fundamentals, including pipelines, DevOps practices, GitHub and AzureCLI.

Qualifications and capabilities

- Experience in system administration of Windows Server and Linux in a large distributed network.
- Infrastructure scripting and automation experience (Infrastructure-as-Code practices; PowerShell, Bash).
- Proficiency with cloud fundamentals (pipelines, DevOps, GitHub, AzureCLI).
