Cyril Jackson Senior Campus (SC) provides students with an alternative approach to Year 11 and 12 schooling. It is one of two senior campuses in Western Australia that offer secondary education to students beyond the compulsory age of 18 years. Students attending include school-aged children working towards their Western Australian Certificate of Education, 18 and 19 year old repeaters and mature age students, returning to education to gain tertiary entrance qualifications, to follow an interest or to gain a skill-based qualification.
Enrolments are accepted from across Western Australia and students hail from many diverse backgrounds. They enrol because they see Cyril Jackson SC as a place of opportunity to further their education. The Intensive English Centre caters for up to 150 newly arrived migrant or refugee students. These students participate in an English development program over two years before completing Years 11 and 12. International Fee Paying Students are also accepted.
The successful applicant should be an excellent classroom practitioner and be able to motivate staff to implement current research to support the learning needs of students in the school’s Intensive English Centre (IEC). Within the school’s leadership team, this position would be leading aspects of the IEC including timetabling, curriculum reporting, budget and resource management and performance management of the Ethnic Education Assistant team. The position reports to the IEC Deputy Principal and undertakes work to support this member of the school’s Executive.
The Head of Department (HOD) IEC would lead the implementation of an innovative, dynamic school developed curriculum in and beyond the classroom, and ensure high level engagement and outcomes for students. The successful applicant should also provide instructional leadership in relation to academic performance and innovative teaching practices, ensuring the ongoing commitment of a school culture focussed on high performance and high care. The successful applicant will also be responsible for the school’s IEC student results database, which is managed within Excel.
As a curriculum leader, you should lead your staff to develop and deliver quality teaching, learning and assessment programs in line with the Western Australian Curriculum and are an active member of the school's leadership team. You should reflect and assess the effectiveness of teaching practice, promote an environment of active and positive learning, and provide educational opportunities and activities which enable students to achieve their highest potential. With effective interpersonal skills, you work closely with students, colleagues and the community to achieve the best educational outcomes for students.
The successful applicant should have the ability to lead school improvement and change initiatives and continually reflect on the quality and effectiveness of teaching and learning. In addition, you should have the capacity to gather and interpret data to inform team planning and assessment and utilise evidence to drive change and improve students’ academic performance. As a school leader you commit to the School Pedagogical Framework (attached) and lead implementation within the IEC team. The school utilises a professional learning community approach within teams.
