An exciting opportunity has arisen for an ambitious and experienced Senior to Principal level consultant to join SLR’s Landfill Engineering team as part of the wider Land Quality and Remediation discipline in Melbourne. We’re looking for a like-minded individual who enjoys working with an enthusiastic, committed, and fun-loving team, is a good listener, and enjoys solving issues for clients.

Key Responsibilities
This role will provide you with the opportunity to work alongside industry leaders across the region and provide you with support on your technical growth within the wider SLR team. As a self-starter, you will be able to display confidence and high-level project management, design investigations, developing engineering solutions to environmental issues at and near landfills, preparation of design documentation in conjunction with design experts and drafters, preparation of technical reports and review of technical reports from external parties, client management and mentoring of other junior staff in the team. The successful candidate would provide leadership on various types of projects for SLR on Landfills in relation to assessment, supervision, design, peer review, audit and expert witness. Working on a variety of projects including:

1. Design of landfill cells and liners
2. Design of leachate and landfill gas capture and treatment systems
3. Landfill rehabilitation and development
4. Environmental assessment, risk assessment and monitoring
5. Landfill gas and soil vapour mitigation system design and assessment
6. Opportunity to work more broadly in contamination assessments and waste projects

Skills and Experience
The ideal candidate will have:

1. A professional qualification in environmental science or engineering or other relevant degree and circa 6-12+ years professional experience in consulting or similar industry role
2. Proven capability in environmental / contamination management (soil and groundwater)/ remediation (soil and groundwater), soil science, preferably in the development, mining and oil and gas sectors.
3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
4. Team player capable of working independently and collaborating with other consultants from in house and external experts
5. High level understanding of key landfill engineering elements
6. Expertise with Vic EPA expectations and requirements for landfill operators
7. Experience in leading the preparation of engineering designs and/or environmental risk assessments and monitoring programs
8. Experience in leading contaminated land assessments, CAD and GIS an advantage but not a necessity
9. Excellent driving history and hold a current unrestricted driver's license.
10. Australia Citizenship or rights to work in Australia.
