The Chief Risk and Assurance Officer (CRAO) is responsible for development, implementation and monitoring of an enterprise-wide risk, compliance and assurance framework encompassing risk management, business assurance, business continuity, disaster response and crisis management. The CRAO is responsible for cultivating a robust, proactive and integrated risk management culture where staff members across the organisation understand the relationship between opportunity and risk, the University’s risk appetite, roles and responsibilities, and relevant policy and procedure.
Reporting to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Strategy and Assurance), the CRAO will lead a Risk and Assurance Division but will have a direct line to the Vice-Chancellor and Chair of the University’s Risk, Audit and Compliance committee, working closely with key stakeholders to ensure UOW manages and mitigates risk effectively in order to achieve strategic goals. The CRAO will be responsible for UOW’s risk and assurance strategy assisting UOW’s leadership group and managers across the organisation to better understand and manage risk and compliance, to plan for business threats and to improve both strategic and operational decision-making across the organisation.
