Canberra, Australia Australian Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development Full time

**Contact Officer**:
**Closing Date**:
**11.59pm AEST, Tuesday 11** June 2024**

**Our Department Values**

Our values set the direction for what it means to work in our department. They inform the standard and expectations of behaviours, skills and capabilities and the attributes we currently have, will continually work to achieve and develop, and that we use to acknowledge and attract, retain and recruit into our department.

**A little bit about us**

The Data, Research, Strategy and Net Zero Division provides products and services to support the organisation to deliver policy, programs, services and regulation for infrastructure, transport, communications, the arts, our regions, our cities and our territories.

The Strategy, Economic Policy and Evaluation Branch develops and delivers strategic policy advice on priority topics identified by the Executive Leadership Team, working collaboratively across the department. It also supports the Department’s evidence base for policy thinking, including by conducting economic analysis. The branch supports areas of the department to conduct best practice evaluations of policies and programs.

The **Policy Projects Unit** is one of the Branch’s two major project teams. You will be working in a multi-disciplinary team that takes a structured and collaborative approach to solving complex problems. Project priorities change regularly, but recent projects have focused on decarbonising the transport and infrastructure sectors, local government financial capacity, climate change resilience, infrastructure policy and skills shortages.

This opportunity is an entry level position and would suit any applicant with strong problem solving, research and communication skills. As a multi-disciplinary team, we welcome a wide range of skillsets including but not limited to public policy, economics, law, statistics, data analysis and any field with strong research skills.

**What will you do?**

You will work productively in a team, contributing to developing policy advice to Government in short to medium term projects. This role is varied and dynamic, but typical duties include:

- Conducting literature reviews and analysis to feed into policy projects
- Assisting with the preparation of research reports, short articles and briefing material
- Developing persuasive communications materials
- Data analysis (depending on your skills and interest).

**Who are we looking for?**
- Undertake research, including gathering, summarising and analysing relevant information
- Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Communicate clearly and prepare persuasive communication materials
- Work well both independently and as part of a diverse team
- Take responsibility for allocated tasks and ensure timely delivery
- Demonstrate the ability to undertake routine tasks with a high level of autonomy, and tasks of moderate complexity under general direction from their supervisor.
