**The Team**

The National Training Unit (NTU) is a specialist team of skilled practitioners in the field of training with extensive electoral experience. The Unit is responsible for the delivery of high-quality training and development that professionalises the AEC’s workforce and builds knowledge of electoral processes.

The NTU is a dispersed team and operates as an agile pool, where staff take responsibility for diverse projects and programs and report through to different supervisors depending on the assignment of work. Unit members are expected to undertake periodic travel.

The NTU is a high workload Unit, within the People Branch. There are many rewarding programs and projects staff will have the opportunity to work on, with governance and reporting playing a crucial role in the success of these programs and projects, and something all Unit members share responsibility for.

**The Opportunity**

The Assistant Director role is responsible for the day-to-day management of matters across all aspects of training and development in the National Training Unit within the People Branch.

The Assistant Director also contributes to unit planning and aligning longer term plans with agency goals and objectives.

The role is responsible for undertaking very complex and/or sensitive work, under broad direction, utilising professional or specialist knowledge and judgement across a range of activities relating to the design, development, delivery and evaluation of national training and development programs across the agency.

To excel you’ll have:

- Knowledge and experience in the design, development and implementation of training and development products and programs across a geographically dispersed workforce.
- Proven ability and experience in the evaluation of training and development products and programs across an organisation.
- Knowledge and experience in developing and conducting a needs analysis to best determine training and development requirements.
- Sound knowledge and experience in successfully managing and delivering results within time restraints and with competing priorities.
- Proven ability to communicate with influence, negotiate strategic outcomes and manage strategic stakeholder relationships, including across a geographically dispersed network.
- Proven strategic conceptual and analytical abilities with sound knowledge of change management practices and techniques to enable innovation particularly within the training and development space.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage staff while developing capabilities, encouraging career development, and embedding professionalism.
- Demonstrated personal drive and integrity whilst achieving results within legislative and budget parameters.

Desirable
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in human resources, education, learning and development or a similar field and/or at least 3 years knowledge and experience in learning and development and project management.
- Knowledge of, or ability to, quickly gain knowledge of Australian electoral law and practice.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Commonwealth frameworks, including Resource Management.
