The National Anti-Corruption Commission

About this opportunity

The NACC has an Assistant Director, Assessments role available for immediate filling in Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, Perth or Sydney. A merit list will be established to fill vacancies arising in the next 18 months.

We currently have offices in Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne and Sydney, and are in the process of securing an office in Perth.

Successful applicants in Perth will need to work remotely until our new offices are open at which time they will be expected to attend the office on a regular basis.

About the role

The Assistant Director, Assessments will report to and work closely with the Director, Assessments to deliver operational outcomes for the NACC. The role will include managing workflows, training, reporting and assurance processes. Working under limited supervision, the Assistant Director will provide direction and advice based on a working knowledge of leading projects, the development of policies, processes, and briefing materials, together with supervising staff and assisting in managing stakeholder through changes.

Recruiting, mentoring, and training this team is a critical part of the role.

To be successful in this role, you will require a demonstrated ability to undertake objective, systematic analysis to support evidence-based decision making. You will also have a demonstrated ability to write and review reports dealing with factual and legal issues of varying complexity.

A background and experience in assessment, investigations, compliance, and/or legal processes will be highly desirable. Legal qualifications and experience will also be a significant advantage, though not a prerequisite.

Key activities
- Leading and managing an Assessment team, including recruiting, and supporting the development of the team. This includes establishing standard operating procedures and training, building team capability, and providing performance feedback.
- Day-to-day operational effectiveness of the Assessment function, including managing a small team, and developing processes to manage the function.
- Providing oversight and direction to Assessment staff to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of services to the public and the development of recommendations for Director Assessments and Senior Executive regarding the most appropriate action to be taken in relation to allegations of corrupt conduct.
- Identifying and addressing system, performance, and cultural issues to strengthen the Assessment Section.
- Supporting the Director Assessments by leading work that contributes to agency-wide priorities and objectives, including capability building, and
- Being an active member of the NACC team by contributing to strategic initiatives specific to business areas, the branch more broadly, as well as contributing to agency-wide corporate initiatives.

The NACC is a small agency. In addition to these duties, from time to time you may be asked to undertake tasks that are outside your usual span of duties but are within the range of your capabilities. Supporting one another in this way provides opportunities for exposure across the agency and is an integral part of the NACC's positive workplace culture.

Eligibility
- **Citizenship **- applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
- **Security clearance** - this is a Designated Security Assessment Position. The occupant of this position will be required to undergo and maintain a security clearance to Negative Vetting 1.
- **Suitability assessment** - the NACC must be satisfied that successful applicants are of suitable character. They must undergo a rigorous pre-employment suitability screening process that can be intrusive in nature including (but is not limited to) detailed background, character, employment, police and financial checks.
