We are seeking experienced and qualified APS 6 Historians to work within the Community Engagement’s History Team and Anzac Portal Team.
The History Team creates commemorative and historical resources to share with the broader community, to raise awareness of the diverse experiences of Australian military service. The Team supports the entire department, departmental executive, and the Minister in this work, and provides departmental services including speech writing, fact checking, and professional guidance on representing military history matters. The History Team runs projects and programs, such as developing commemorative posters and calendars, managing the acquisition of images, veterans’ oral history project, VC and VCfA travel program, and a program researching, drafting and publishing books on Australia’s wartime history.
The Portal Team manages the design, development, maintenance and promotion of the Anzac Portal website. The website delivers commemorative, historical and educational resources to share with the broader community, to raise awareness of the diverse experiences of Australian military service. Key user groups include secondary school students and senior Australians. Under the Australian Government Digital Service Standard, DVA must present all digital information in accessible language that everyone can read and understand. This means following the Australian Government Style Manual for plain language and style and complying with the latest version of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). The standard applies to the Anzac Portal, its newsletter and assets, such as online history books and teaching resources.
In the History team, a Masters or PhD qualification focusing on an aspect of Australian military history is h**ighly desirable for this role**.
In the Portal team, experience as a digital content writer is **highly desirable for this role**.
**Duties**
- Contribute to the Teams work in creating and reviewing historically accurate content for Ministers, executive and the community, to increase their understanding of Australian service
- Manage competing priorities and projects with fixed deadlines (eg. tied to commemorative anniversaries), while producing high quality and accurate products
- Collaborate and engage with stakeholders to promote and improve DVA's history and portal offerings
- Provide expert advice to your section, Director, the branch and executive
- Ensure projects meet all financial and administrative regulations (eg. procurement is in accordance with appropriate requirements)
- Mentor staff, and build capability as required
- Oversee and contribute to the development of content, advice, briefings, papers, submissions and correspondence.
**Eligibility**
- Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the Australian Public Service (APS).
- All applicants external to DVA offered employment will be required to successfully undergo a pre-engagement screening check, even if they have a security clearance. The screening check is conducted in accordance with the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework requirements.
**Notes**
Where a non-ongoing position is offered, the role will be filled for an initial specified term of up to 23 months.
A merit pool of suitable applicants may be created which may be used to fill future ongoing and non-ongoing vacancies should they become available over the next 18 months.
