**ROLE OVERVIEW**

We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to join our sanctuary maintenance team on a casual basis for up to 38 hours per week.

Under the guidance and supervision of the **Head of Department (HOD) Maintenance**, the Maintenance Officer & Gardener helps maintain, repair the sanctuary grounds, gardens and buildings. The role is to primarily ensure all areas are maintained as per the instructions and guidelines of the Sanctuary Maintenance Department.

The Maintenance Officer & Gardener is required to conduct their duties in a courteous, safe and efficient manner, in accordance with **Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary** (LPKS) policies, procedures and SOPs, ensuring that the highest level of service and work is performed.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Provide support to the Head of Department, Maintenance and assist in meeting the strategic goals of the department.
- Development, planting, overseeing and ongoing upkeep of the Community Garden including, but not limited to:

- Planting of browse plants for the sanctuary animals
- Development of Bush Tucker Garden
- Planning and planting of the sustainable vegetable garden
- Planning and coordinating a home for native beehives
- Propagation of native plant seedlings for future sale from Community Garden
- Responsible to perform general trade work, repairs and upkeep throughout the Sanctuary including, but not limited to:

- Structural woodwork and miscellaneous projects
- Alteration and repair to Sanctuary fixtures and fittings
- Maintenance of equipment, buildings, enclosures within the Sanctuary grounds
- Carrying out repairs to public areas based on the individual's technical knowledge

and experience.
- Repairs and maintenance to the building structures including minor installation

works when/if required
- Assist in maintaining workshop tools and equipment in the workshop and keeping

this area neat and tidy
- Attend Maintenance Meetings, training courses and workshops as required
- Compliance with all LPKS policies, procedures and SOPs
- Conducting general gardening as directed
- Conducting general upkeep of the septic system as directed
- Making appropriate recommendations and/or suggestions to the HOD on energy

and environmental conservation improvements
- Ensuring full compliance with legislated Workplace Health & Safety requirements
- Ensuring all requests for Sanctuary maintenance are carried out within an

acceptable and reasonable time frame

**ROLE PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS**
- Previous experiences in gardening and/or landscaping or at least labour work
- ACDC certification
- Holding a chainsaw licence
- Strong technical and problem-solving skills
- Understanding of preventative maintenance and fire preventative maintenance
- Basic understanding of expenses and costs of repairs
- Positive ‘Can Do’ attitude.
