**Why this role matters**:
The Culturally Nourishing Schooling (CNS) project is a three-year practice/research informed program to better engage and support the education of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. The collaborative project between universities, local communities, and schools, aims to establish a culturally focused and strengths-based program that supports whole school change. The overarching focus of this project is the professional learning of a critical mass of informed teachers and school leaders, Aboriginal families, and communities in the support of sustainable improvements in the educational outcomes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

**Accountabilities**:

- Review key policy initiatives that are likely to impact on schools and delivery of educational programs to Aboriginal students and devise an Advocacy & Policy Strategy for the Culturally Nourishing Schooling Project, in collaboration with key stakeholders and funders.
- Leverage the partnership between CNS and Social Ventures Australia (SVA) and other key organisations to identify and build key relationships to support CNS’s goals to inform policy and practice.
- In collaboration with CNS partners, identify and build key stakeholder relationships within Government, state and federal.
- Co-design a First Nations Advocacy component of the Strategy, working in collaboration with the First Nations Leads, UNSW & SVA - focusing on research translation & impact, and mid to long-term goals for the project (beyond iteration 1).
- Identify strategies to elevate the voices and insights from CNS schools, parents and the broader Aboriginal communities directly to policy leaders. To include Indigenous media - community radio and print media (e.g., Koori Mail and National Indigenous Times).
- Establish and support the initial implementation phase of the strategy, focused on Government, and update the strategy in response to internal, partner and external feedback.

**Skills and Experience**:
To be considered you will hold Australian Working Rights or Australian Citizenship. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.
- Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
- Proven record of developing successful education strategies and plans and leading the implementation to deliver enhanced engagement within the Department of Education or similar.
- Strong advocacy skills, such as proven record of government relations, familiarity with political engagement at a senior level and/or other industry-related work.
- Excellent written communication and presentation skills, with demonstrated expertise in writing and producing publications, web content and communications materials.
- Excellent networking, interpersonal, stakeholder management and negotiation skills with an ability to influence senior management.
