**About the role**:
EPA are currently recruiting for two Solicitor's to join their high functioning dynamic and supportive team who are primarily responsible for supporting EPA investigations and criminal prosecutions, including the preparation and review of briefs. The position requires agility to undertake broader legal work as EPA's demands and priorities require. You will manage your own files to provide expert legal services and advice, aligned to EPA's strategic priorities to prevent harm to Victorian communities and the environment from pollution and waste.

This is an exciting role for two solicitors that wants to contribute to the success of the EPA as it enters a new era of environmental protection in Victoria. Working under broad direction form the Principal Solicitor, Investigations Support and Prosecutions, you will actively contribute to a positive organisational culture and achieve the highest standards of performance and integrity; fostering genuine partnerships across all levels of government, industry, and community to deliver organisational outcomes.

**Duties**:

- Under broad direction of the Principal Solicitor, Investigations Support and Prosecutions, prepare and review briefs for criminal prosecutions, in a timely manner; act as Solicitor on the record for the EPA in litigation matters; prepare and implement management strategies for legal proceedings.
- Appear on behalf of EPA in Magistrates Court, Country Court and the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), including mentions and case conferences; assist in preparing and instructing counsel in complex and sensitive matters.
- Under broad direction of the Principal Solicitor, Investigations Support and Prosecutions Provide strategic and tactical legal advice to investigators and regional operations staff as required.

**Skills and experience**:

- Management skills and demonstrated capability to plan, monitor and deliver services and support consistent with organisational priorities, including risk identification and management, budget development and management; optimise the allocation and use of resources; and evaluate project / program effectiveness.
- Knowledge of the law of evidence, the practice and procedure in the Magistrates' Court, County Court, Supreme Court and the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
- Knowledge and ability to quickly gain familiarity with the requirements of the Environment Protection Act 2017, Freedom of Information Act 1982, and other legislation relevant to the EPA.
- Prosecutor or regulatory experience desirable.
