**Position Information**:
The NSW Department of Education provides, funds and regulates education services for NSW students from early childhood to secondary school, delivering world-class education through its public schools and providing funding support to non-government schools. We employ, develop and support teachers, leaders and other staff to deliver the best outcomes for students and to advance the wellbeing of Aboriginal people.
**About the Role**
School Learning Support Officers provides support for students with identified diverse learning needs including disability in classrooms and other learning environments under the direction and supervision of a teacher to support the achievement of educational outcomes. This support includes student welfare, health and wellbeing activities as required. In addition School Learning Support Officers may provide specific support for students in the following streams or settings: pre-school, vision support, hearing support, and bilingual. Student Learning Support Officers working in these streams/settings have specific additional duties, in addition to the general duties for School Learning Support Officers that are required to be performed.
**Essential Requirements**
- Working with Children Check Clearance
- Completion of mandatory training required by the Department of Education and a willingness to undertake first aid training relevant to the School Learning Support Officer role.
- Administration of Medications - training to be provided based on student needs.
**Selection Criteria**:
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to work with students with emotional, physical or intellectual disabilities.
- Awareness of the needs of students with emotional, physical or intellectual disabilities.
- Effective communication skills.

Braddock Public School has a current enrolment of 315 students, including 30% who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and 9% from a language background other than English. The school has 4 support classes - an autism class, two multi-categorical classes and a class for students with a mild intellectual disability. The school has a FOEI of 170.

A culture of 'every student is everyone's responsibility' is highly valued by staff and the community. Visible learning and a culture of growth mindset are embedded across the school. The school has a mix of both early career teachers to more experienced staff.
Equity funding employs an above establishment Deputy Principal, additional classroom teachers and School Learning Support Officers to ensure the academic and wellbeing needs of all students are met. The school funds a twelve month transition to school program for 4 years olds who will enrol in Kindergarten the following year. These children attend one day per week and the purpose is to make connections between the school and families and ensure school readiness.
Aboriginal programs and perspectives are embedded throughout the school, led by a highly dedicated Aboriginal Education Team, including a Deputy Principal Aboriginal Instructional Leader. Positive Behaviour for Learning, Trauma Informed Practices and a high functioning Learning and Support Team drive wellbeing practices. Staff are highly collaborative and supportive. A specialist trauma program supports students and families, whereby three expressive therapists work at the school 3 days per week to support students who have experienced adverse life events, resulting in trauma. Staff are also supported to cater for the needs of these students through the provision of a teacher facilitator who specialises in trauma informed education.
Braddock Public School has strong relationships with external service providers to support families. Clear and consistent communication between school and home is a valued priority.
