Overview:
- Part-time, 3 days per week, continuing position for an Associate Lecturer in Ceramics-
- Salary Academic Level A + 17% Superannuation and Flexible Working Arrangements-
- Based at the City campus, but may be required to work and/or be based at other campuses of the University.- About You
The Associate Lecturer will be required to teach and conduct classes in disciplines relevant to their field of expertise in Ceramics and assist in the academic and administrative, consultative and coordination tasks involved with these courses. Functions associated with the position include studio and workshop teaching, presentation of lectures and tutorials, assessment of students and course administration in line with the University’s quality assurance requirements. The Associate Lecturer is also required to undertake research activities in line with the University’s research strategy. It is expected that the Associate Lecturer will work under support and guidance to develop expertise in teaching and research with an increasing degree of autonomy.
To be successful in this position, you’ll have as a minimum:
Demonstrated ability to prepare and teach programs related to Ceramics at undergraduate and post-graduate levels, including transdisciplinary courses and online delivery, and the ability to produce high quality curriculum or program materials.-
- Demonstrated capacity to work effectively with and to negotiate sensitively with students especially on issues related to effective learning.-
- Demonstrated technical expertise in ceramics, particularly in contributing to a safe workshop and studio environments.-
- Evidence of emerging research output including exhibitions, creative practice, publications, and conference contributions in the field.-
- Ability to generate alternative funding projects through effective liaison with industry and government.-
- Ability to work autonomously whilst displaying a strong commitment to work in a team environment, including the demonstrated ability to confidently and effectively work with colleagues, project team leaders, and industry partners.-
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and effectively manage varying workloads and respond to changing priorities as required.-
- Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills.About the School

The School of Art has a strong practice-based research program which explores issues of globalised society through interdisciplinary projects and a research focus on social engagement, environment, creative care, digital imaging, craft, materiality and technology and sound. The School of Art CAST (Contemporary Art and Social Transformation) research group and other research networks support this activity.
Fine Art, Ceramics
- The focus of the ceramic studio is immersive and experiential, transforming clay through conceptualising, designing and crafting objects. Embedded in this are links with historical narratives and contemporary ideas that engage students in a range of creative working processes. They act as ways to explore, expand, transform and deepen a personal approach to making, while developing the aesthetic and conceptual considerations that are necessary in contemporary ceramic art practice, including interdisciplinary practices. The Ceramics studio is supported by a full-time technical officer.
